What to compare before buying
For drying laundry indoors, ADEME recommends checking spin efficiency, but this shouldn’t be treated as a universal requirement. Then compare load capacities, space requirements and usage information that reflects how you do your laundry.
| Criteria |
What to check before buying |
Who should consider it? |
| Spin efficiency |
The spin efficiency class, the speeds available on the programmes you use and the load conditions set out in the manual. |
When I dry laundry indoors, I want it to come out less damp before I hang it up. Around 29% of consumers prioritise spin efficiency. |
| Load and drying capacity |
The rated capacity, the loads allowed for each programme and, for a washer-dryer, its separate drying capacity. |
I want the capacity to suit my laundry loads and drying routine. Around 23% of consumers prioritise load capacity that meets their needs. |
| Space and connections |
The appliance dimensions, delivery access, clearance for opening and access to the connections. |
If space is tight, I need to know whether the appliance can be delivered, opened and connected without getting in the way. Around 18% of consumers prioritise a size that will fit in their home. |
| Noise and stability |
Noise emissions during spinning, as well as the stability and levelling requirements given for the model. |
If the washing machine is near living areas, I want to compare noise levels and minimise vibrations. Around 18% of consumers prioritise quiet operation and stability. |
| Consumption and cycle duration |
kWh per 100 cycles, litres per cycle and the duration of the reference programme. For a washer-dryer, distinguish between washing and a complete wash-and-dry cycle. |
To plan my cycles and compare how they’ll be used, I look at figures based on the same programme. Around 12% of consumers prioritise energy and water consumption and cycle duration. |

Frequently asked questions
Do you need a 1 400 or 1 600 tr/min spin speed to dry laundry indoors?
No, these speeds aren’t a universal rule. Compare the spin efficiency class and the programmes you use; the maximum speed may be reduced if the load is unbalanced.
How do you choose the capacity of a washer-dryer?
Check the washing and drying capacities separately, then organise your loads according to the capacity for the function you’re using. For example, the LG F964R71WRST has a stated capacity of 9 kg for washing and 6 kg for drying.
What should you measure before delivery and installation?
Measure the appliance and access routes, then check the clearance needed to open it and access the connections, following the manual. The Electrolux installation services we reviewed don’t include plumbing, electrical or carpentry work.
Can levelling affect the spin cycle?
Yes, stability is one of the installation requirements to follow. Electrolux recommends a hard, stable floor and proper levelling; a very small load can also cause an imbalance.
How do you compare the consumption of a washer-dryer?
Compare figures based on the same programme and distinguish between washing information and information for the complete cycle. Washing figures alone aren’t enough to calculate the consumption of a cycle that also includes drying.
