Which option suits your needs?

Households that clean hard floors frequently

If meals and everyday foot traffic leave marks or small spills on your tiles, vinyl or other compatible flooring, a dedicated floor cleaner can pick up light debris and wash the floor in one go. Just remember to allow time for maintenance afterwards.

Households dealing with dried-on stains and different surfaces

If you also need to vacuum rugs, upholstery or large amounts of dry debris, keep a vacuum cleaner suited to those jobs. UFC-Que Choisir found that the hard floor cleaners it tested struggled with stubborn stains, so you may still need to tackle some marks by hand.

People who are mindful of appliance maintenance

A self-cleaning cycle won’t necessarily remove the need to empty the dirty-water tank or look after the roller and filters. Before choosing a model, compare what you’ll need to do after each clean, as well as the drying instructions.

What sets the different options apart?

Start with the dirt and surfaces you need to tackle, then consider what you’ll need to do once the cleaning is finished.

PriorityWhat to checkWhat you need
Everyday washing Check that the appliance can wash your flooring and collect dirty water. For dried-on stains, look for a test involving similar dirt: UFC-Que Choisir found that the hard floor cleaners it tested had limitations when it came to stain removal. I want to deal with everyday marks and small spills without going over the floor repeatedly, while still being able to scrub a stubborn stain.
Dry vacuuming Check which uses are approved: dry floors, larger debris, rugs and upholstery. Dyson says its WashG1 needs to be used alongside another vacuum for rugs, upholstery and dry vacuuming alone. Rugs and dry debris matter as much as washing, so I’d rather keep a separate vacuum than rely on a floor cleaner alone.
Flexibility Using a separate vacuum and mop means two jobs, but lets you use each for its intended purpose. A vacuum with a hard floor attachment won’t necessarily wash floors with water. If I don’t wash the floor often, using my appliances separately may suit my routine better than adding a dedicated floor cleaner.
Automation For a mopping robot, check which surfaces it can access, how much room its dock needs and what maintenance is involved. In December 2024, UFC-Que Choisir reported poor washing and vacuuming performance for most of the roughly 40 mopping robots in its test. I’d like to schedule regular cleaning, without expecting the robot to deal with a dried-on stain or a large spill on its own.
Maintenance Check how to empty the tanks, clean the roller and maintain the filters. Find out what the self-cleaning cycle actually does and what you’ll still need to do by hand. Saving a pass over the floor appeals to me, but not if I have to do more than I’d like at the end of every cleaning session.
Flooring Compare the instructions for the exact model with the flooring manufacturer’s guidance, especially for wood and steam use. Tineco says some sealed wooden floors are suitable for the Floor One S7 Stretch Steam; this doesn’t apply to every appliance or finish. I have wood flooring or several different floor types, so I want to check they’re compatible before using water or steam on them.

What should you avoid before buying?

  • Assuming a “vacuum mop” can replace all your cleaning appliances

UFC-Que Choisir found that suction was often weak on the hard floor cleaners it tested. Some dedicated floor cleaners also have more limited uses: Dyson says you still need another vacuum alongside its WashG1 for rugs, upholstery and dry vacuuming.

Make a list of the surfaces and debris you need to clean. If that includes rugs, fabric or lots of dry dust, plan to vacuum separately.

  • Confusing self-cleaning with no maintenance

You may still need to deal with the tanks, roller or filters. For example, Dyson says to empty the WashG1’s debris tray and tanks before starting its self-cleaning cycle.

Read the steps required after each use and check how the washed parts need to dry.

Emptying the tanks and cleaning removable parts takes time, even when a dock washes the roller.

  • Assuming a steam setting will remove every stain

A steam function describes a cleaning mode; it doesn’t guarantee results on every type of dirt. UFC-Que Choisir’s tests highlight the limitations of the hard floor cleaners it tested when dealing with stubborn stains.

For dried-on or ingrained stains, be prepared to treat them individually and look for tests involving the type of stain you’re concerned about.

  • Treating all hard floors the same way

The flooring finish and cleaning mode both affect compatibility. Tineco’s approval of some sealed wooden floors for the Floor One S7 Stretch Steam doesn’t mean it’s suitable for all wooden flooring.

Before using water or steam on wood, check the appliance instructions against the flooring manufacturer’s guidance.

Which brands are worth considering?

These examples relate to specific ranges and models. They don’t indicate the capabilities of an entire brand or the products featured below.

Roborock

Roborock says the F25 Steam combines steam washing with vacuuming for floors. It was included in a selection of hard floor cleaners published by Les Numériques in September 2026.

  • Roborock claims this model offers up to 80 minutes of runtime, as well as self-cleaning and hot-air drying.
  • These features don’t guarantee that every stain will be removed. Check which floor types are suitable for steam mode, too.

Tineco

Tineco offers a range of hard floor cleaners, including the Floor One S7 Stretch Steam. The Floor One S9 Scientist was featured separately in the selection published by Les Numériques in September 2026.

  • For the S7 Stretch Steam, Tineco claims up to 80 minutes of runtime and a self-cleaning function with FlashDry drying.
  • Tineco advises against dry vacuuming without water and using third-party cleaning solutions with this model. Check that these instructions suit your needs.

Rowenta

Featured in Les Numériques’ September 2026 selection, the X-Clean 12 is described by Rowenta as a cordless vacuum mop for floor cleaning.

  • Rowenta claims this model has an anti-tangle roller, up to 65 minutes of runtime and a self-cleaning and drying cycle.
  • These manufacturer claims don’t tell you how well it will deal with every stubborn stain or whether it can replace vacuuming on all surfaces.

Dyson

The WashG1 is a dedicated cleaner for hard floors. Dyson says you’ll still need a separate vacuum for rugs, upholstery and dry vacuuming alone.

  • Dyson highlights the WashG1’s two-roller washing system and several moisture settings.
  • Before its self-cleaning cycle, you’ll need to empty the debris tray and tanks, among other steps. A setting for dried-on stains doesn’t guarantee they’ll be removed.

Dreame

The H14 Pro features in a selection of hard floor cleaners published by Les Numériques in September 2026.

  • This model gives you another dedicated hard floor cleaner to consider.
  • Assess the H14 Pro based on your flooring and dry-vacuuming needs, and don’t apply conclusions about one model to the entire range.

Which Joybuy appliances should you consider?

These options include hard floor cleaners for manual use and a mopping robot for automated cleaning. They’re designed for different needs: first decide whether you want to wash the floor yourself or let an appliance do it autonomously, then check your flooring type and the jobs you want it to handle.

ECOVACS DEEBOT X9 PRO Omni

This robot is an option for automating regular cleaning, rather than tackling a stain by hand straight away. The product title lists an OZMO Roller, an Omni station with hot-water washing and hot-air drying, and claimed suction of 16 600 Pa. Check that you have enough room for the station, that you have the required 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network and that your flooring is compatible. The suction figure alone doesn’t tell you how well it will clean.

Frequently asked questions

Can a hard floor cleaner replace a vacuum and mop?

Not for every job. In its tests, UFC-Que Choisir found that suction was often limited and that stubborn stains could be difficult to remove. A hard floor cleaner can handle regular washing on compatible floors, while a separate vacuum remains useful for rugs, upholstery and dry vacuuming. Dyson says this is the case for its WashG1, in particular.

What needs looking after after a cleaning session?

You’ll need to deal with the dirty water and follow the model’s instructions for cleaning or drying the roller and other parts. For the WashG1, Dyson says to empty the debris tray and tanks before starting the self-cleaning cycle. Check the instructions for the appliance you’re considering to find out what you’ll need to do after each use.

Can you use any detergent in a hard floor cleaner?

No. Only use products approved in the instructions for the exact model. Tineco advises against third-party cleaning solutions for the Floor One S7 Stretch Steam, as they may create too much foam and quickly fill the dirty-water tank. Check before applying this model-specific guidance to other appliances.
