What should you check before choosing?
Compact countertop, with or without a tank
Worth considering: if you have a suitable surface and a safe route for drainage. A model designed to run from a tank may be a good option if you don’t have a permanent water supply.
What to plan for: the tank needs filling, and doesn’t remove the need for drainage or an electrical supply. Daan Tech states that Bob holds 3 standard place settings; Candy describes the CP 6E51LS as a 6-place-setting model connected directly to the water supply.
Compact integrated dishwasher
Worth considering: if you already have a suitable recess and can arrange the connections and the required cabinet door.
What to plan for: the Electrolux ESL2500RO is a fully integrated 55 cm model with room for 6 place settings; Electrolux says the cabinet door is not included. According to ANIL, making changes to a rented home requires the landlord’s written consent.
Slimline dishwasher
Worth considering: if you have floor space or a recess and want to wash more dishes per cycle. Whirlpool states that the WSFO 3T223 P and WSIO 3O34 PFE X models each hold 10 place settings.
What to plan for: a narrower width doesn’t mean the appliance is compact in every dimension. Whirlpool lists the WSFO 3T223 P as measuring 45 × 85 × 59 cm. Check the door swing and hose route too.
To choose between these formats, compare your usual load of washing up with the basket capacity, and measure the space in width, height and depth. ADEME says the energy label provides information including capacity, water and energy consumption, and noise level.

Frequently asked questions about small dishwashers
Can a tank-fed dishwasher work without drainage?
No, not the Bob described by Daan Tech: the manufacturer says it still needs a drain hose connected to suitable drainage. The tank only removes the need for a permanent water supply when using the specified filling method.
What should you check before installing an appliance under a cupboard or in a recess?
Measure the recess and check the instructions for the exact model for clearances, the door, hoses and socket. Don’t rely on width alone: the French product page for the Candy CP 6E51LS gives two different heights.
How can you compare the consumption of two models?
Compare the litres per Eco cycle and kWh per 100 Eco cycles shown on their labels, as well as their capacity. ADEME notes that these figures are based on reference cycles, so also consider how many cycles you’ll need for your usual washing up.
Can a renter alter the plumbing to install a dishwasher?
In France, if the work amounts to altering the rented premises or equipment, Article 7 of the law of 6 July 1989 requires the landlord’s written consent, as ANIL explains. This doesn’t mean that an appliance simply placed and connected without alterations always needs consent: it depends on the work involved.
What protection applies after buying from a trader in France?
In its guidance dated 9 September 2026, the French Ministry of the Economy states that the legal guarantee of conformity applies to new, second-hand and refurbished goods sold by a trader to a private customer, and can be claimed for two years. A commercial warranty or paid-for extension is optional and doesn’t replace this legal guarantee.
