Which criteria should you prioritise?
Mini dishwasher with a water tank
Worth considering: if you don’t have a dedicated water supply and mainly wash small loads.
Keep in mind: you’ll need to fill it by hand and arrange wastewater drainage; the tank doesn’t remove the need to drain the water.
6-place-setting tabletop model
Worth considering: if you have a water supply and can set aside around 55 cm of width for the appliance.
Keep in mind: it takes up more worktop space, and a higher stated capacity doesn’t guarantee that bulky utensils will fit alongside your crockery.
Slimline dishwasher
Worth considering: if you can free up floor space and want to keep your worktop clear.
Keep in mind: a 45 cm model still stands on the floor, so you’ll need to measure its height and depth too. UFC-Que Choisir points out that these models aren’t necessarily cheaper than higher-capacity ones.
Standard-size dishwasher
Worth considering: only if you can reorganise your kitchen to make room for the appliance and its connections.
Keep in mind: this format is less suited to households whose main issue is a lack of space for a conventional appliance.
For a one- or two-person household with a small kitchen, UFC-Que Choisir’s report highlights the need to cut down on washing up without having room for a conventional appliance. The criteria below can help you compare formats based on the specific problem you need to solve.
| What to consider |
What to check before buying |
Who is it for? |
| Water supply and drainage |
Check the permitted water-supply options, drainage connection and hose fixing instructions in the manual for your chosen model. |
If I don’t have a dedicated water supply, I want to be able to fill the appliance without overlooking wastewater drainage. Around 25% of consumers prioritise this installation flexibility. |
| What will actually fit |
Compare the basket with a typical load of plates, bowls, glasses and cookware; don’t rely on the place-setting count alone. |
When I cook regularly for two, I want to know whether the pans and crockery from a meal will fit together. Around 25% of consumers prioritise everyday loading capacity. |
| Available space |
Measure the width, height and depth, then check the door clearance and access for filling. Daan Tech lists Bob’s dimensions as 34 × 49 × 49 cm, in width × height × depth order; Bosch Electroménager France lists the SPS4EMI11E as 84,5 × 45 × 60 cm. |
In a small kitchen, I want to avoid losing preparation space or choosing an appliance that won’t fit its allotted space. Around 25% of consumers put the appliance’s overall size first. |
| Noise and everyday use |
Compare the declared noise levels for the exact model and check the timer functions and seller’s terms. Make sure you distinguish the statutory guarantee from a commercial extended warranty. |
If my kitchen is open-plan, I take noise and the practicalities of everyday use into account. Around 25% of consumers prioritise ease of use. |

Frequently asked questions
Can a model with a tank work without any drainage?
No. With Bob, filling the tank manually doesn’t remove the need to drain wastewater. Daan Tech’s guide specifies a drainage hose, connected to the waste pipe, for example, and secured with the clip provided.
Can you fill Bob with hot water?
Daan Tech’s guide says Bob can be filled with cold or hot water up to 60 °C. It also states that wastewater leaving the appliance can reach 70 °C. These instructions apply to Bob and shouldn’t automatically be assumed to apply to every mini dishwasher.
Does a capacity of three place settings automatically make a dishwasher suitable for a couple?
No. The Moulinex Studio MINID3SL manual lists a maximum capacity of 3 place settings, but that doesn’t prove your cookware will fit in the basket too. Think about a typical load from your meals, especially if you use a frying pan or saucepan.
What guarantee applies to purchases from a trader in France?
The statutory guarantee of conformity is compulsory for goods sold by a trader to a private individual. According to Service Public and the Ministry of the Economy, the defect must appear within two years of the goods being delivered. This guarantee is separate from an optional commercial warranty.
