Who are these formats for?

Hosts who want ready-to-serve portions

If you’re serving iced coffee to several guests and want to chill the portions before brunch, a pack explicitly sold in cans gives you identical containers. Coutume, for example, offers its Organic Cold Brew in packs of cans.

Guests who prefer milky coffee

If the coffee-and-milk recipe matters more than having a can, other packaging options are available. Auchan lists Lactel Caffè Latte in a pack of 3 × 200 ml, while Carrefour stocks a 24 cl bottle of Nescafé Cappuccino.

People who pay attention to ingredients

Check the ingredients list and nutritional information to compare recipes. “Lactose-free” does not necessarily mean milk-free. And if caffeine is a factor in your choice, remember to take account of the other drinks served at brunch.

What should you look for in a brunch coffee?

First decide whether cans are essential, then compare the recipe and storage instructions for your chosen format.

What to consider What to check Who is it for?
Pack of cans Check the number of cans and their volume in the pack being sold. A “PCB: 6” note on a listing for a 250 ml Régilait can does not, by itself, confirm that it is a consumer multipack. I want to chill several identical portions and serve them without having to prepare each glass. Around 40% of consumers would make a genuine pack of cans their priority.
Milky recipe and storage Check the packaging, volume per portion, whether it contains milk, and the storage instructions before and after opening. The 3 × 200 ml pack of Lactel Caffè Latte listed by Auchan is not a pack of cans. For my brunch, I’d rather serve milky coffee, even in different packaging, and be able to follow its storage instructions. This would be a priority for around 30% of consumers.
Ingredients Compare the sugars per 100 ml, ingredients list and allergens for the product you’re considering. Also take account of the portion you drink and other sources of caffeine. Before choosing a format, I need to check the ingredients, particularly the milk and sugar content. Around 30% of consumers would put this check first.

Mistakes to avoid

  • Assuming a supplier’s pack size is the pack you can buy

Carrefour’s listing for Régilait Frappé Macchiato describes a 250 ml can and includes the note “PCB: 6”. This alone does not confirm that your purchase includes six cans.

Check that the product description or packaging clearly states that it is a pack and specifies how many cans are included.

  • Confusing “lactose-free” with “dairy-free”

The Starbucks Caffè Latte variant listed as lactose-free still contains milk. The two descriptions do not mean the same thing.

Read the ingredients and highlighted allergen information on the packaging of the product you’re buying.

  • Forgetting about other drinks that contain caffeine

Several drinks served at brunch can all contribute to your caffeine intake. Anses notes, for example, that caffeine can delay sleep.

If this matters to you, check the portion you’ll actually serve and remember to include any other caffeinated products you drink.

Brands and ranges to consider

These products illustrate different packaging and recipe options. The brand alone won’t tell you whether a product is sold in a multipack of cans.

Coutume

Ready-to-drink black coffee for anyone specifically looking for several cans.

  • Coutume offers its Organic Cold Brew in packs of 6 or 12 20 cl cans.
  • It’s black coffee, so you’ll need to provide any extras separately for guests who prefer a milky drink.

Régilait

A single-can option for milky iced coffee.

  • Carrefour lists Frappé Macchiato in a 250 ml can.
  • The “PCB: 6” note on the listing does not confirm that six cans are sold together to consumers.

Lactel

A milky coffee drink for anyone who’d prefer a small pack to cans.

  • Auchan lists Caffè Latte Classico in a 3 × 200 ml format.
  • These aren’t cans. According to Auchan’s listing, once opened, the product should be kept chilled at a maximum of 6 °C and consumed quickly.

Starbucks

Bottled, single-serve iced coffees with milk, available in several recipe variations.

  • Carrefour lists a 220 ml bottle of Cappuccino, among other options.
  • The lactose-free Caffè Latte variant listed by Auchan contains milk and, according to its listing, needs to be kept in the fridge.

Nescafé

Two different ways to serve iced coffee: a ready-to-drink milky coffee or a concentrate to dilute.

  • Carrefour lists a 24 cl bottle of Cappuccino, as well as a concentrate for making iced coffee.
  • The concentrate needs to be prepared in glasses, so it isn’t a ready-to-serve individual portion.

Coffee portions available on Joybuy

If you’re interested in several portions of ready-to-drink coffee but don’t need cans, this product comes in ten individual sachets. The packaging is different from the multipack of cans you might be looking for at brunch.

CANTABILE Sweet Americano, ten 230 ml sachets

CANTABILE Sweet Americano, 10 × 230 ml sachets

Serve several portions of ready-to-drink coffee, chilled or over ice. The ten portions come in sachets, not cans.

If the ingredients or storage are important to your choice, check the sugar and caffeine content and the storage instructions on the product before buying.

Frequently asked questions

How can you tell if it’s a genuine multipack of cans?

The product being sold should clearly state the number of cans, for example, “pack of 6” or “6 × 20 cl”. Coutume advertises packs of cans for its Organic Cold Brew. By contrast, the “PCB: 6” note on Carrefour’s listing for a Régilait can isn’t enough to confirm that it’s a consumer multipack.

Is a lactose-free drink also milk-free?

Not necessarily: the lactose-free Starbucks Caffè Latte variant listed by Auchan contains milk. To check whether a product is suitable for you, read its ingredients list and allergen information.

Can you leave milky iced coffees on the table during brunch?

Follow the instructions for each product rather than applying the same rule to all milky drinks. Auchan’s listing for Starbucks Caffè Latte lactose-free says to keep it refrigerated and consume it immediately after opening. The listing for the Lactel pack says that, once opened, it should be kept at a maximum of 6 °C and consumed quickly.

How can you compare the sugar content of differently sized packs?

Compare the “of which sugars” figure using the same basis, then take account of the amount you’ll actually serve. For a concentrate that needs diluting, compare the prepared drink rather than the concentrate on its own, and include any ingredients you add.
