Remote work has become a staple in our lives, transforming a part of our home into a dedicated professional space. While this flexibility is a major advantage, setting up a workstation that is both functional and comfortable can be a real challenge. An unsuitable desk often leads to aches and pains, reduced focus, and constant clutter.
Faced with the vast array of available models, choosing the right home office desk can quickly become overwhelming. Should you opt for a sit-stand model? A corner desk to maximise space? Or prioritise integrated storage?
This guide is here to help. I'm a Product Recommendation Manager at Joybuy, and my mission is to share my expert advice and a curated selection of products to help you create a work environment that is both productive and healthy.
Before we dive into our selection, let's review the key criteria for making the right choice.
Spending long hours in a seated position takes a toll on your well-being. An ergonomic desk is specifically designed to adapt to your body and help you maintain good posture.
The latest trend is the sit-stand desk, also known as a height-adjustable desk. These models allow you to effortlessly alternate between working positions throughout the day. This variation helps reduce sedentary behaviour and boost your energy. Electric versions are even more convenient, allowing for precise, effortless adjustment at the touch of a button.
Your desk should fit seamlessly into your room without cluttering it.
A clear desk fosters a clear mind. A desk with integrated storage (drawers, shelves, cabinets) is an excellent solution for keeping your documents, supplies, and accessories within reach but out of sight.
Let's not forget cable management. To avoid the usual tangle of wires, some desks feature cable grommets or under-desk trays. It's the perfect solution for a clean and tidy computer desk.
To guide you, we have selected three models that perfectly illustrate these different needs for flexibility, space, and organisation.

When sitting, the golden rule is the 90-degree angle: your feet should be flat on the floor with your knees bent at 90 degrees, and your forearms should rest on the desk with your elbows also at 90 degrees. A height-adjustable desk is the easiest way to achieve this ideal posture, regardless of your height. When standing, the desktop should be level with your bent elbows.
Absolutely. The whole point of a sit-stand desk is to be able to change your posture without a second thought. Alternating between sitting and standing throughout the day helps reduce the discomfort associated with prolonged static posture and maintains a good energy level. The electric motor makes this transition so simple and quick that you'll do it naturally.
To finally conquer the cable mess under your desk, several solutions exist. Use cable ties or Velcro straps to bundle wires together. Desks that are already equipped with cable grommets (holes in the desktop) or management trays and baskets, like the Ochama models in our selection, are particularly effective for concealing wires and power adapters.
