Who is this guide for?

Households concerned about streaks

You often mop tiles or another compatible hard floor and want to compare the cleaning results, number of passes and amount of moisture left behind. UFC-Que Choisir tests cleaning performance on different types of flooring and notes that more sophisticated mechanisms don’t always deliver better results.

Households looking to spend less time maintaining mop pads

You run frequent cleaning cycles and want to cut down on washing mop pads by hand, while keeping in mind that you’ll still need to manage water tanks, waste and other maintenance.

Homes with delicate flooring

You have wooden flooring, for example, and need to check where wet mopping is suitable and what instructions to follow. Quick-Step advises against using too much water on the relevant types of wood flooring; check the care instructions for your own flooring.

What should you look for before buying?

First, check how well the robot cleans the type of floor in question, then work out which chores the dock actually automates. UFC-Que Choisir’s tests show that the mopping mechanism alone doesn’t predict the results.

What matters to you What to check Who it matters most to
Streaks and cleaning results Compare tests of the exact model on your type of flooring and the dirt you need to tackle. Check the water and number-of-pass settings. I mainly want to reduce streaks on my hard floor and find out how the robot tackles everyday dirt. Around 31% of consumers prioritise cleaning results.
Maintenance still required Check separately whether the dock empties the dust, washes and dries the mop pads, and what other maintenance the instructions require. I run my robot often and want to spend less time washing mop pads by hand, without forgetting about the tanks and waste. Around 25% of consumers prioritise reducing manual maintenance.
Planning cleaning cycles Look at room-by-room settings, the order of cleaning tasks and how easy the app is to use on the exact model. I want to schedule cleaning to suit the different rooms in my home. Around 19% of consumers put planning cleaning cycles first.
Flooring compatibility Identify your flooring and check its care instructions. See if the robot lets you adjust or exclude mopping in certain areas. For the relevant types of wood flooring, Quick-Step advises against using too much water. I need to avoid using unsuitable mopping settings on my wooden or other delicate flooring. Around 13% of consumers prioritise protecting their floors.
Noise and space Measure the space available and look for a test that distinguishes between the noise made by the robot and that made when the dock empties, washes and dries. I want to position the dock without disrupting my living space and choose cleaning times that fit my routine. Around 12% of consumers prioritise a quieter, more compact dock.

Mistakes to avoid

  • Assuming a more sophisticated mechanism will always clean better

UFC-Que Choisir’s tests show that a more advanced mechanical action doesn’t always improve results on tiles. You may still need to tackle stubborn stains by hand.

Compare tests of the exact model on your type of flooring and the dirt you need to tackle.

Bear in mind that stubborn stains may need an extra clean by hand.

  • Confusing a dust-emptying dock with a mop-pad washing dock

Emptying dust and maintaining mop pads are separate functions. Roborock, for example, describes the dock for the Roborock Q10 S5+ as an automatic dust-emptying dock.

Check separately whether the exact model empties dust, washes and dries the mop pads, and manages water. Refer to the product details and instructions.

Depending on the functions available, you may still need to allow time for manual maintenance and budget for compatible consumables.

  • Scheduling a wet clean without checking your flooring

Wood flooring care instructions may limit water use and how often you can mop. A result on tiles doesn’t confirm that the robot is suitable for all wood floors.

Check your flooring instructions first, then set up a no-mop zone or suitable settings only if both sets of instructions allow it.

  • Assuming a water-connected dock is ready to use straight away

Narwal says that the buyer must install the water connection for the relevant Flow version.

Confirm which version is being sold and check that the connection can be installed in your home before choosing this configuration.

Allow for installation and any changes needed to the dock’s location.

Brands to know

Roborock

The Q10 S5 Set and Q10 S5+ show two different configurations: one with a vibrating mop pad, the other with a dust-emptying dock.

  • The UK product pages distinguish between model features and list compatible replacement mop pads.
  • The manufacturer advises against using unapproved cleaning products. Where dilution is required, follow the product and model instructions.

Eureka

The J15 Pro Ultra is an example of a robot with rotating mop pads and a multifunction dock, worth considering if you mop frequently.

  • In its December 2024 test, Les Numériques reported good mopping performance, scheduling options and largely automated maintenance.
  • The same test noted that the dock takes up a lot of space and that the robot struggles with cables. These findings relate to the model tested.

Xiaomi

The Robot Vacuum 6 Max is an example of a roller-based mop with a comprehensive maintenance dock.

  • In its test dated 15 October 2026, Les Numériques reported excellent vacuuming on hard floors and convincing mopping on most stains.
  • The same test noted that corner cleaning could be better and that the app can sometimes be confusing. Its findings relate to this model.

Narwal

The Flow features a water-fed track mop. The version with a water connection is a separate configuration.

  • Narwal says the track is cleaned as the robot moves around.
  • For the water-connected version, the brand says installation is the buyer’s responsibility. This feature doesn’t prove that every mark will be removed.

Mova

The P70 Pro Ultra combines rotating mop pads with a dock that handles tasks including washing and drying the pads, refilling water and emptying dust.

  • In its June 2026 test, Les Numériques described it as easy to maintain and configure.
  • The same test noted that the app is cluttered and that the robot keeps a wide berth around obstacles. These observations relate to the model tested.

Frequently asked questions

Can you schedule wet mopping on all wooden floors?

No. A test on tiles isn’t enough to establish that a robot is suitable for wooden flooring. For the relevant types of wood flooring, Quick-Step recommends dry cleaning for everyday care and a slightly damp mop for a deeper clean, while avoiding excess water. Check your flooring instructions before setting up the robot.

Which detergent should you put in the water tank?

Follow the instructions for your model and don’t use a product that its manufacturer hasn’t approved. For the models covered by its support guidance, Roborock recommends its own solution and specifies a dilution ratio of 1:300. This ratio doesn’t automatically apply to another brand or product.

Does a dock that empties dust also wash the mop pads?

Not necessarily: these are separate functions. Roborock describes the Q10 S5+ dock as an automatic dust-emptying dock. Check separately whether each model washes and dries the mop pads.

What maintenance is still needed with a full-service dock?

You’ll still need to check the tanks, washing area and consumables specified for the model. Also check the maintenance instructions and whether compatible mop pads, bags or filters are available. Automation doesn’t mean there’s no maintenance at all.

What legal protections apply when buying a robot in France?

When you buy from a business, you can claim under the legal guarantee of conformity from the seller. The French Ministry of the Economy states that new goods are covered for two years. Online purchases from a business generally come with a right to cancel of at least 14 days, subject to applicable exceptions. The DGCCRF also includes household robot vacuum cleaners among the product categories for which a repairability index must be displayed.
