For making a dish to share
A large tub of plain yoghurt lets you measure out what you need for a cold dip, a side dish or a dessert to share. Carrefour and Auchan list 1 kg tubs; Carrefour also lists an 850 g YAOS tub.
For a cold dip or a dessert to share at an Italian evening, choose a large tub of plain yoghurt if you can keep it chilled and finish it within the stated time after opening. If you’d rather serve each guest an unopened portion, compare multipacks of individual pots and check the total weight and pack details on the packaging.

Individual pots save you from having to portion yoghurt out of a shared container. Carrefour lists a Danone multipack of 8 x 150 g pots, but its description also gives a different weight, so check the packaging.
Compare the ingredients, fat content per 100 g and storage instructions for the specific product. The stated time after opening is particularly important if you’ll only use some of a large tub during the evening.
First decide whether you’ll use the yoghurt in a dish to share or serve it in individual pots. Then check the recipe and how you can store any leftovers after the evening.
| Factor | What to check | Who is it for? |
|---|---|---|
| Amount to share | Compare the total net weight with the amount you need for your recipe or to serve everyone. | If I’m making a dessert or dip for several guests, I want to be able to take out the amount I need. Around 29% of shoppers would make this their top priority. |
| Individual portions | Check the number of pots and their weight on the packaging, particularly if the online listing is inconsistent. | If I want to serve everyone without portioning yoghurt from a large tub, I’d prefer individual pots. Around 29% of shoppers would prioritise this convenience. |
| Recipe | Check the ingredients, highlighted allergens and fat content per 100 g for the specific product. | If I’m using the yoghurt in a savoury or sweet dish, I want to know exactly what’s in it. Around 21% of shoppers would put this first. |
| Storage | Check the use-by date, storage temperature and how long it will keep after opening. | If there’s likely to be some left after the evening, I need to be able to store it as instructed. This would be the top priority for around 21% of shoppers. |
A multipack of individual portions and a large tub won’t necessarily contain the same amount or suit the same way of serving.
Work out how much you need for your recipe or guests, then compare the total net weights.
The use-by date alone won’t tell you how long to keep yoghurt once it’s been opened. Auchan says its 1 kg tub should be used within four days of opening; the Lynos product listing on Auchan’s website says three days for that product.
Before choosing a large tub, check the storage time and temperature on its packaging, as well as how much you’ll use after the evening.
Ingredients and nutritional values vary from one product to another. Carrefour lists 8.6 g of fat per 100 g for its Carrefour Extra tub; Auchan’s listings for Auchan, Lynos and Delta products give a fat content of 10% for the products concerned.
Compare the per-100 g information and the ingredients on the exact product’s packaging, rather than relying on the words ‘Greek-style’ alone.
Carrefour’s listing for the Danone multipack says 8 x 150 g pots in the title, but its description also mentions 8 x 110 g pots.
Check the weight printed on the pack before relying on a specific quantity for your guests.

A 1 kg tub of plain Greek yoghurt, so you can take out the amount you need.

A 1 kg tub is a good choice if you’re measuring out yoghurt for a dish to share and can store and use the leftovers according to the packaging. If you want to serve each guest an unopened portion, a multipack is better suited to that style of serving. Check how many pots it contains and the total weight.
Follow the time-after-opening guidance on your chosen tub, as well as its storage temperature. Auchan says its 1 kg tub of plain Greek yoghurt should be used within four days, while the Lynos product listed by Auchan should be used within three days. These timeframes don’t automatically apply to other products.
Before serving the yoghurt, check the ingredients list and any highlighted allergens on the exact product’s packaging. The DGCCRF says that allergenic ingredients must be highlighted on the labels of relevant food products. Don’t assume one tub has the same ingredients as another product.
Plan to serve it in a way that follows the storage instructions on the packaging, rather than leaving a large tub of chilled yoghurt on the table all evening. Take out the amount you need to serve and keep the rest chilled as directed by the manufacturer.
