Who is a multipack suitable for?

If you want to serve a portion quickly

An individual pot saves you having to scoop out a portion from a large tub. Carrefour, Auchan and E.Leclerc list multipacks of 110 g, 125 g or 150 g pots. Choose the size that suits how you like to eat lunch.

If you prefer to customise your recipe

A natural version lets you choose your own toppings. Even so, check its ingredients and nutritional information: the natural recipes listed by Carrefour and Auchan are not identical.

If you enjoy bowls and recipes

If you also want to use the product in a savoury or sweet dish, check its recipe, pack size and storage instructions after opening. Lidl’s page for Eridanous, for example, describes how it can be used in cooking, but this doesn’t tell you about the characteristics of all Greek-style yoghurts.

Which factors should you prioritise?

If you’re planning several lunches, start by checking the number and size of the pots, then compare the exact recipe. The use-by date and the space needed in your fridge matter too, whatever your taste preference.

Factor What to check Who it’s for
Individual portions The number of pots and the weight of each one: the products listed range from 4 × 110 g to 4 × 150 g. I want to take a pot out of the fridge for several lunches, without portioning a large tub myself. Around 36% of consumers prioritise this need for portion control.
Recipe and ingredients The product description, ingredients, sugars and fat per 100 g, followed by the amount you’ll eat. If I want to choose my own toppings, I want to tell the difference between a natural recipe and a flavoured one. Ingredients are the top priority for around 29% of consumers.
Texture and use in cooking The ingredients and pack size of the product you’re considering for a bowl or a savoury or sweet dish. I want my pot to go with a bowl or be used in a recipe, and texture matters to me. This is the top priority for around 21% of consumers.
Storage The use-by date, the temperature shown on the packaging and the instructions for after opening. I’m planning lunches over several days and want to buy a number of pots that I can use before they need to be consumed. Around 14% of consumers prioritise this kind of planning.

Mistakes to avoid

  • Assuming ‘Greek-style’ always means the same recipe

Auchan’s listing for Danone natural gives the legal product description as ‘natural dairy speciality’, while Auchan’s natural version is described as a stirred yoghurt. The ingredients and nutritional information may also differ.

Read the product description, ingredients list and nutritional information for the product you choose.

  • Assuming a flavoured version is the same as a natural one

For the two Danone products listed, Carrefour gives 4.1 g of sugars per 100 g for the natural version, compared with 14.1 g per 100 g for the coconut version listed by Auchan. This difference applies to these specific recipes, not all flavoured versions.

Compare the sugars in the exact product. If you’d rather choose your own toppings, consider a natural version and add them yourself.

  • Buying several pots without checking the date

A multipack may contain more pots than you can get through before the use-by date. The Ministry of the Economy advises following the storage temperature shown on the packaging of chilled products.

Check the date and storage instructions on the pack in store, then keep the pots at the temperature indicated.

Pots that aren’t eaten in time may go to waste.

Brands to consider when comparing pack sizes

Danone

Carrefour and Auchan list Greek-style products in 4 × 110 g packs, including natural and coconut versions.

  • Carrefour’s listing for the natural version gives skimmed milk, cream and cultures as ingredients, with 7 g of fat and 4.1 g of sugars per 100 g.
  • Auchan’s listing for the coconut version gives 14.1 g of sugars per 100 g, so compare the two recipes separately.

Carrefour Extra

Carrefour lists a natural recipe in a 4 × 150 g pack for anyone looking for a larger individual pot.

  • The ingredients listed include whole milk, cream, skimmed milk powder and cultures.
  • Each pot contains more than a 110 g or 125 g pot, so check that it’s the portion size you want.

Bio Village

E.Leclerc lists an organic natural multipack of 4 × 125 g.

  • The ingredients list includes organic whole milk, organic cream, organic skimmed milk powder and cultures.
  • If you’re interested in this product, check availability at your E.Leclerc store or Drive.

Auchan

Auchan lists a natural Greek-style yoghurt in a 4 × 125 g pack, with information about its ingredients and storage.

  • It lists 74% skimmed milk and 24% cream, and says to store the product between 0 °C and +6 °C before opening.
  • The listing gives 10 g of fat per 100 g. Use the same 100 g basis when comparing this figure with another product.

Eridanous (Lidl)

Lidl describes this Greek-style yoghurt as suitable for eating on its own or using in savoury and sweet recipes.

  • Its use in cooking may help guide your choice if you’re also looking for a base for a recipe.
  • To compare a specific product, check the pot weight, ingredients and nutritional information on its packaging.

Frequently asked questions

Do all ‘Greek-style’ products have the same recipe?

No. The term alone doesn’t tell you the product description or ingredients. Auchan’s listing for Danone natural describes it as a ‘natural dairy speciality’. To choose, compare the product description, ingredients and nutritional information for each product.

What pot size should I choose for lunch when working from home?

Choose a size you can serve without having to portion out a large tub. The multipacks listed by Carrefour, Auchan and E.Leclerc include 110 g, 125 g or 150 g pots. If you’d prefer a larger size to share or use in cooking, check the instructions for after opening.

Does a natural version always contain less sugar?

Don’t assume this is true for every product. In the Danone pair listed, Carrefour gives 4.1 g of sugars per 100 g for the natural version, while Auchan gives 14.1 g per 100 g for the coconut version. Compare the figures for the exact product.

How should you store a Greek-style yoghurt multipack?

Follow the use-by date and storage temperature shown on the packaging. The Ministry of the Economy highlights the importance of keeping chilled products cold. For example, Auchan’s listing for its natural yoghurt says to store it between 0 °C and +6 °C before opening.

Do the products listed contain milk?

Yes. The ingredients lists shown for Danone natural, Carrefour Extra, Bio Village and Auchan natural include milk or ingredients made from milk. Always check the label on the product you actually buy, especially if its ingredients are an important factor in your choice.
