Who are these formats for?

Larger households eating lunch at home

If several people are serving themselves at the table, a 1 kg tub of natural yoghurt makes it easy to share across several lunches. Carrefour, E.Leclerc and Auchan all include this format in their ranges.

Families with different lunchtime schedules

If everyone eats at a different time, individual pots save you from serving each portion out of one large tub. Carrefour, E.Leclerc and Auchan offer multipacks of individual portions.

Families eating lunch away from home

If portability matters more than eating with a spoon, a drinkable yoghurt may be worth considering. Yoplait sells Yop in this format, but it isn’t Greek-style yoghurt.

What should you look for?

When planning school-holiday lunches for a larger household, think about where and when you’ll eat before choosing the size of the container.

What to consider What to check Who it suits
Sharing format Check the net weight and how much space you have in the fridge. Carrefour, E.Leclerc and Auchan offer 1 kg tubs. When several people are having lunch at home, I prefer to serve the amount we want from one tub. Around 50% of consumers would put this need for a shareable format first.
Individual portions Check the number of pots, the weight of each one and the flavours in the multipack. Available formats include 4 × 150 g and 8 × 125 g. If people eat at different times, everyone should be able to grab a portion without opening a large tub for everyone to share. Around 30% of consumers would put individual portions first.
Transport and storage Read the storage instructions for the product you choose. For chilled products, Anses recommends keeping transport time to a minimum and using an insulated bag. When I’m out and about, I mainly need a product that’s easy to take with me while still following its storage instructions. Around 20% of consumers would make portability their priority.

Common mix-ups to avoid

  • Confusing a large tub with a 3-litre bottle

A 1 kg tub of Greek-style yoghurt, such as those offered by Carrefour, E.Leclerc and Auchan, is neither a 3-litre bottle nor a “6 pint” format. Searching by container type may also bring up drinkable yoghurts, which are intended for a different use.

If you want yoghurt to serve with a spoon, check the product listing for its category, net weight, ingredients and storage instructions before choosing a format.

  • Assuming storage instructions for drinkable yoghurt apply to all yoghurt

Instructions for a particular Yop product don’t apply to chilled Greek-style yoghurt. Anses advises that chilled foods should be transported in a way that minimises breaks in the cold chain.

Read the packaging of the product you buy. To transport chilled Greek-style yoghurt, use an insulated bag and put it in the fridge as soon as possible.
