Nothing transforms a plain room into a cosy cocoon, or a simple garden into a magical scene, quite like globe string lights. But with mains-powered, battery-operated, and solar models for indoor or outdoor use, the choice can quickly become a headache. Don't worry! This guide is here to light the way and help you find the perfect luminous decor for your needs, without the technical jargon.
Before diving into our top picks, here are three key points to consider to make an informed decision.
Where you plan to install your string lights will determine the best power source.
This point is crucial for the safety and lifespan of your setup. Water and dust resistance is indicated by the Ingress Protection (IP) rating.
The material of the globes and the colour of the light set the atmospheric tone.
Here are a few models that caught our eye for their quality and specific use cases.

1. What length of globe string lights should I choose? It all depends on your project! For a small object like a vase or mirror, 1 to 3 metres is enough. To adorn a headboard or window, aim for 3 to 5 metres. For an entire wall, a large Christmas tree, or a balcony railing, a length of 10 metres or more will be much more suitable.
2. Can I use indoor string lights outdoors? Absolutely not! It's a matter of safety. An indoor string light (usually IP20 rated) is not protected against moisture and could cause a short circuit if exposed to rain or even dew. Only use string lights specifically designed for outdoor use, with an IP rating of at least IP44.
3. Do LED string lights use a lot of electricity? Not at all. LED string light technology is renowned for its very low energy consumption. An LED string light uses up to 80% less electricity than one with incandescent bulbs, and has a much longer lifespan. As for solar models, their impact on your bill is simply zero.
