Who is each option for?

People with access to a fridge

A pot of fruit yoghurt can be a good choice for a snack or after a meal, as long as you can follow the storage instructions until you eat it. The product information for an Auchan fruit yoghurt specifies storage at between 0 °C and +6 °C.

People comparing recipes

If sugars, fat, protein or sweeteners matter to you, check the nutritional values and ingredients for each product. The words “with fruit” or “0%” on the front don’t tell you everything about the recipe.

People without a fridge before mealtimes

If storage before opening is your main concern, a UHT dairy drink may suit your needs. That doesn’t make it fruit yoghurt, though: check the product category, format and storage instructions before you choose.

What should you check before buying?

Chilled fruit yoghurt

Choose this if : you want a fruity yoghurt in a pot and can keep it chilled until mealtime.

Bear in mind : your journey and where you plan to eat it need to allow you to follow the storage instructions on the packaging.

Long-life UHT milk

Consider this if : you’re mainly looking for a dairy product that can be stored without refrigeration before opening.

The trade-off : it’s milk, not a single-serving fruit yoghurt, and its format may also differ from that of an individual yoghurt pot.

What to consider What to check Who is it for?
Storage and portion size Check the storage temperature and weight per pot, and make sure you’ll have access to refrigeration until mealtime. I want to take a pot of fruit yoghurt with me, but I need to be able to store it as directed on the packaging. Around 42% of consumers would put this combination of format and chilled storage at the top of their list of needs.
Recipe ingredients Compare sugars, fat and protein per 100 g and per serving, then read the ingredients list, especially to check for sweeteners. I want a fruity taste, but I’d rather compare the recipes than rely on the front of the pack. For around 33% of consumers, ingredients would be the top priority.
Storage before opening Confirm the product category, format and storage instructions. If “filtered” appears in the description, check what the term refers to. Without access to a fridge before mealtime, I prioritise a product I can store unopened, even if that means choosing something other than fruit yoghurt. This flexibility would be the main concern for around 25% of consumers.

Common mix-ups to avoid

  • Confusing UHT milk with fruit yoghurt

Storage requirements might lead you to choose long-life milk, even when what you really want is the texture, fruit and format of a yoghurt. Manger Bouger distinguishes milk from yoghurt and fermented milk.

Decide which type of product you want to eat. If a product is labelled “filtered”, check its product name and storage instructions rather than assuming it combines the features of both categories.

  • Judging a recipe by the claim on the front of the pack

Two fruit yoghurts can have different ingredients and nutritional values. Yoplait says its Panier 0 % range contains sweeteners, despite the “no added sugar” claim.

Compare the nutritional information per 100 g and per pot, then check the ingredients list for the product you plan to buy.

  • Taking a chilled pot with you without a way to keep it cold

An individual pot is easy to carry, but that doesn’t change its storage requirements. Auchan specifies storage at between 0 °C and +6 °C for its fruit yoghurt with pieces.

Check the instructions on your pot and whether you can keep it chilled during your journey and where you plan to eat it. If you can’t, choose a product suited to your storage needs, without treating it as an equivalent yoghurt.

Brands to know when comparing recipes

These ranges offer useful points of comparison for fruit yoghurts. The features of one recipe don’t necessarily apply to every product from the same brand.

Yoplait

The Panier range includes fruit yoghurts with pieces, as well as a Panier 0 % option.

  • Yoplait describes Panier L’Original as a yoghurt made with French milk and pieces of fruit, and publishes nutritional values per 100 g.
  • According to Yoplait, Panier 0 % contains no fat or added sugar, but does contain sweeteners. Check the details of the specific recipe you’re interested in.

Danone

Auchan’s range includes a Danone fruit yoghurt with pieces in a pack of 16 × 125 g.

  • This format makes it easy to consider the weight of each pot separately from the number of pots you’re buying.
  • Danone’s HiPRO pots and drinks cater to a different need for high-protein products, so don’t automatically treat them as the same as this fruit yoghurt.

Auchan

Auchan’s range includes a creamy fruit yoghurt with pieces.

  • Its product information lists the ingredients, nutritional information per serving and storage at between 0 °C and +6 °C.
  • This recipe includes sugar, cream and glucose-fructose syrup, among other ingredients. Check the ingredients separately for each other product.

Carrefour

The Carrefour Bio and Carrefour Extra ranges include fruit yoghurt products.

  • Carrefour’s Extra range includes a pack of six 150 g pots, which you can compare with 125 g pots.
  • Compare the ingredients and nutritional values of the product you choose: range names alone don’t tell you what’s in the recipe.

Marque Repère DELISSE

E.Leclerc lists DELISSE fruit yoghurts with pieces and stirred yoghurts with blended fruit.

  • Products in 16 × 125 g packs make it easy to compare pots of the same weight across different recipes.
  • Check whether you prefer pieces or blended fruit: these descriptions refer to different textures.

Frequently asked questions

Can I keep fruit yoghurt out of the fridge until mealtime?

Follow the storage instructions for the pot you’ve chosen rather than relying on its single-serving format. The product information for Auchan’s fruit yoghurt with pieces specifies storage at between 0 °C and +6 °C, so check how you can keep it chilled during your journey and until you eat it.

Can long-life UHT milk replace fruit yoghurt?

No. It meets a different storage need, but it isn’t the same food. Manger Bouger distinguishes milk from yoghurt and fermented milk. The Elle & Vire UHT whole milk product is also sold in a 1 L format, rather than as a pot of fruit yoghurt.

How can I compare the sugar content of two different-sized pots?

Look at the sugar content per 100 g to compare the recipes, then check the amount per pot to see how much you’d get in the portion you’re considering. Auchan lists 14 g of sugars per 100 g and 17 g in its 125 g pot of fruit yoghurt with pieces. Check the ingredients for each product, too.

What does “0%” tell me about a fruit yoghurt?

It isn’t enough to tell you everything about the ingredients or nutritional values. According to Yoplait, Panier 0 % fruit yoghurts contain no fat or added sugar, but do contain sweeteners. Read the ingredients list and nutritional information for the option you choose.
