Who are these formats for?

People organising a short break

If you need to serve refreshments quickly, compare the stated number of portions and the packaging. The Auchan product pages we reviewed distinguish between individually wrapped portions and sharing packs: with a large format, you’ll need to plan how to serve it at the buffet.

People responsible for providing allergen information

Keep the ingredients for each product so you can clearly match them to the sweets being served. In France, the DGCCRF says that allergens must be highlighted in the ingredients list of prepacked products. For non-prepacked food, the decree published on Légifrance requires the relevant allergens to be made known to consumers.

People organising a welcome or choosing a gift

A selection of chocolates and fruit jellies may be more suitable as a gift than for simply serving at a buffet. The Jacquot product featured by Carrefour is an example of this kind of mix, but its product page showed it as unavailable. Choose a product whose ingredients and availability you can confirm.

What should you look for when choosing treats for a break?

First decide how the sweets will be served, then check the ingredients for the exact product and the information you’ll need to share with attendees.

What matters What to check What consumers are looking for
Portions and serving Number of pieces or portions; check whether individual wrapping is provided if needed. For a short break, I want to hand out the sweets without slowing down service or handling them too much. Around 31% of consumers say portion planning is their top priority.
Allergens and ingredients Ingredients list for the exact product; information matched to each item on the buffet. If several sweets are on offer, I need to be able to show which allergen information applies to each one. For around 25% of consumers, this traceability is their main concern.
Nutrition information Nutrition values per 100 g, particularly sugars; Nutri-Score if displayed. When comparing two products, I want to read their nutrition values on the same basis rather than rely on the product name. This is the top criterion for around 25% of consumers.
Presentation and availability Whether a sleeve, gift box or sharing pack is suitable; availability for the date you need it. If the sweets are also intended as a gift, I’m looking for suitable packaging that I can get in time. Around 19% of consumers give this combination top priority.

Mistakes to avoid before serving

  • Assuming Nutri-Score is compulsory

The DGCCRF distinguishes between nutrition declarations, which are generally compulsory for prepacked food, and Nutri-Score, which is voluntary. So if the logo is missing, you should still check the nutrition information.

Compare the values per 100 g, ingredients and allergens. Use Nutri-Score as additional information when it appears on the packaging.

  • Assuming a chocolate mix is the same as fruit jellies on their own

Ingredients vary depending on the recipe. The Jacquot selection featured by Carrefour contains milk and may also contain cereals containing gluten and nuts.

Check the label of each product you buy and make sure its allergen information is clearly linked to the item being served.

  • Planning the whole break around a single product

A product page may show that an item is unavailable, and a dated offer may not cover the day you plan to shop. The Jacquot box we viewed at Carrefour was marked as unavailable; ALDI’s Seasons Best offer ran from 29 September to 5 October 2026, while stocks lasted.

Confirm availability with the relevant shop before deciding how many to buy, and identify an alternative product whose ingredients you can also check.

  • Choosing a ‘sport’ sweet based on its positioning alone

A product marketed for exercise won’t necessarily meet the needs of a conference break. The number of pieces, packaging and allergens are still important when it comes to serving.

Check these details and the nutrition values for the product you’re considering first, rather than assuming it’s suitable because it says ‘sport’.

Retailers to consider

These examples can help you compare formats and product information. Check the exact product and its availability at the shop where you plan to buy it.

Carrefour

Carrefour sells fruit jellies and has listed a selection combining chocolates and fruit jellies.

  • The Carrefour Bio product page describes fruit jellies in a 190 g pack and lists their ingredients.
  • The Jacquot chocolate and fruit jelly selection we viewed was marked as unavailable.

Auchan

Auchan sells fruit jellies in individual and sharing formats.

  • The Gerblé product page specifies six individual 27 g packs; the Jacquot selection page describes a 1 kg format.
  • The 720 g Saint Siffrein format we viewed is not listed as individually wrapped.

E.Leclerc

E.Leclerc sells a 300 g sleeve of ‘Nos Régions ont du Talent’ fruit jellies.

  • The sleeve is a clearly identifiable format for comparing different presentations.
  • Check the ingredients for the exact product and confirm its availability with the shop concerned.

ALDI

ALDI announced a Seasons Best fruit jelly selection as part of a dated promotion.

  • The offer states that the selection contains 50% fruit.
  • The promotion ran from 29 September to 5 October 2026, while stocks lasted, so it cannot be used to plan a purchase for another date.

Monoprix

Monoprix sells a box of six Andros Sport fruit jellies, weighing 180 g in total.

  • You can compare the number of pieces with the portions you’ll need for the break.
  • The product page we viewed shows a Nutri-Score D and lists gluten; this is not a gift box combining chocolates and fruit jellies.

Lidl

Lidl leaflets can help you find a promotion that coincides with the event date.

  • The leaflet shows how long the advertised offers are valid for.
  • Lidl notes that not every shop will necessarily stock every item and that products cannot be reserved in supermarkets.

A fruit jelly product on Joybuy

If you want to serve fruit jellies in individual portions rather than give a box of chocolates, this product gives you a six-piece format to consider. Check the exact packaging and label before planning how to serve it.

Andros Sport fruit jellies, box of six, 180 g

Andros Sport fruit jellies x6, 180 g

The six-piece format is handy if you want to plan how many portions to serve. This product is presented as a snack for exercise, not as a gift box of chocolates and fruit jellies.

The 180 g Andros Sport x6 product featured by Monoprix shows a Nutri-Score D and lists gluten. Check the ingredients and allergen information on the packaging you buy before serving.

Frequently asked questions

Is Nutri-Score compulsory on fruit jellies sold in France?

No. According to the DGCCRF, Nutri-Score is voluntary labelling, while a nutrition declaration is generally compulsory for prepacked food. If a logo is shown, consider it alongside the nutrition values per 100 g and the ingredients list. Don’t use it as the sole way to decide whether a product is suitable for your break.

How should you display allergen information at a buffet?

Make sure the information is clearly linked to the relevant sweet, particularly if you remove items from their packaging. In France, the decree published on Légifrance requires consumers to be told about relevant allergens in non-prepacked food. For prepacked products, check the ingredients list and the allergens highlighted in it.

Is a chocolate and fruit jelly selection suitable for everyone?

Check the exact recipe before serving it. The Jacquot selection featured by Carrefour contains milk and may also contain cereals containing gluten and nuts. The words ‘fruit jellies’ alone don’t describe the ingredients of every item in the selection.

How should you store fruit jellies before the break?

Follow the storage instructions for the product you buy. Several Auchan product pages we viewed say to store products away from heat and humidity. Bear this in mind when choosing where to keep them before serving.

Can you reserve an item advertised by Lidl in advance?

Lidl says that products cannot be reserved in supermarkets. If your conference is on a set date, check the leaflet’s offer dates and whether the item is available at the shop concerned. If necessary, plan to buy an alternative product.
