Buying priorities
Choose the format and usable capacities first, then check that the appliance can be installed and used without getting in the way in your kitchen.

What to check |
Your needs |
| Capacity and layout |
Compare the fridge and freezer litres separately. Check the format: table top, single-door, fridge freezer or multi-door. |
I want enough room for my usual shopping without giving too much space to a compartment I rarely use. The proportion of fresh and frozen food matters more than total capacity alone. |
| Kitchen compatibility |
Measure height, width, depth, housing, ventilation, door opening and access to drawers. For a built-in model, also check the sliding or fixed-door hinge system. |
My fridge must fit without blocking the walkway or preventing the doors or drawers from opening fully. |
| Food storage |
Check the temperature settings, ventilation instructions and distance from heat sources. Alarm or air-circulation features should be confirmed for the model you choose. |
I am looking for an organised layout that helps me store fresh food properly every day, without overlooking installation or appliance settings. |
| Energy and noise |
Read the energy label, noise class and noise level in dB(A). Compare appliances with similar capacities and formats. |
In a studio flat or open-plan kitchen, noise can matter as much as the interior layout. I compare the regulated information without judging an appliance solely by its energy class letter. |

Frequently asked questions
How can I tell whether a built-in fridge will fit in my kitchen?
Measure the height, width and depth of the housing, then compare them with the built-in dimensions in the product specifications and manual for the exact model. Also check the door system: sliding hinges and fixed-door hinges do not work in the same way. If the housing is too small, Bosch recommends choosing a freestanding appliance.
Do I need to leave ventilation space around the fridge?
Yes, but the exact clearances depend on the model and must be checked in its manual. Electrolux recommends allowing air to circulate around the appliance; installation documentation specifies 40 mm at the sides and above, plus 30 mm at the rear for the model concerned. These figures do not automatically apply to every fridge.
Can I change the door-opening direction?
Some models allow this, but it is not standard across the range. Bosch states that the method varies by appliance and refers users to the installation instructions; confirm this before buying if a wall or worktop restricts the door opening.
How long should I wait after moving a fridge before plugging it in?
Electrolux recommends waiting at least 4 hours after transport before plugging the appliance in, allowing the oil to return to the compressor. Follow the model’s manual if it gives different instructions.
What temperature should I aim for when storing food?
Anses recommends a temperature between 0 °C and +4 °C at the coldest point in the fridge. This recommendation concerns food storage and does not replace the installation instructions or checking the model’s climate class.
