Priorities before buying
Start by identifying the steps that come up most often in your meals: mechanical preparation, cooking in the bowl, kneading, or simply the need to complement equipment you already own.

What to check |
Your needs |
| Steps to automate |
Check whether you need to chop, blend, grate, slice, knead or whisk, or whether you also want to cook and simmer in the same bowl. According to Que Choisir, cooking is what distinguishes a cooking robot from a food processor. |
I mainly want to reduce chopping and mixing, or also eliminate cooking and transferring ingredients between containers. |
| Capacity and space |
Compare the usable capacity where stated, the bowl volume, the dimensions with accessories and the weight. Check the steaming capacity separately if you cook on several levels. |
My usual portions need to fit without choosing a machine that is too heavy or takes up too much space on my worktop or in my cupboards. |
| Accessories and cleaning |
Check the exact contents of the pack: blades, whisk, discs, steamer basket, blender or storage box. Also read the cleaning instructions for each individual component. |
I want to prepare my usual recipes as soon as I buy it, without discovering afterwards that an essential accessory is sold separately. |
| Durability and second-hand buying |
Check the reference, spare parts, warranty and any independent tests available for the specific model. For a second-hand appliance, inspect the bowl, lid, seals and locking mechanism. |
I am looking for equipment I can maintain and repair, without confusing a brand promise with proof of reliability. |

Frequently asked questions
Can a multifunction food processor replace a cooking robot?
Not if you need to cook, simmer or steam in the appliance. According to Que Choisir, a multifunction food processor mainly automates preparation, while a cooking robot is distinguished by its cooking function. However, if you already cook on the hob, in the oven or with a multi-cooker, a multifunction model may be sufficient.
Are guided recipes or a subscription necessary?
No. According to Que Choisir, guided recipes are not essential for using a cooking robot. They can help you follow each step, but check for the model you are considering whether access is included, free, time-limited or paid.
How can I compare the accessories actually available?
Compare the contents of the exact pack, rather than the features advertised for an entire range. Check the blades, whisk, mixer, steamer baskets, discs, blender and storage solutions in particular. Que Choisir points out that some tests are only carried out when the accessory is supplied.
Is the repairability index displayed for kitchen robots in France?
As of 8 July 2025, the list published by the Ministry for Ecological Transition covered laptops, lawnmowers, dishwashers, vacuum cleaners and high-pressure cleaners, without mentioning kitchen robots. Do not therefore infer that the model has no repairability index: check the availability of spare parts, the warranty and the repair terms instead.
Should I buy an older cooking robot second-hand?
Yes, but only after checking the exact reference, age and condition of the bowl, lid, seals and locking mechanism. 60 Millions de Consommateurs reported burns linked to the first 2015 Moulinex Cuisine Companion, which was no longer marketed. This report concerns that older reference and does not apply to all cooking robots.
