Who is this choice for?

You prepare several ingredients each week

You want to combine chopping, blending and slicing with accessories suited to the meals you make regularly, rather than accumulate tools you rarely use. Que Choisir Ensemble recommends checking what each accessory is designed to do.

You’re short on storage space

You want to store the base, bowls and tools in the space you have available. Que Choisir Ensemble’s guide advises taking account of the space needed for accessories and checking whether dedicated storage is included.

You already own some of the equipment

You want to add the functions you’re missing without duplicating a blender, stand mixer or cooking appliance you already have in your kitchen.

What should you compare before buying?

Food processor

Worth considering: if you regularly switch between chopping, blending and slicing, without expecting the appliance to cook.

Bear in mind: one base doesn’t mean you’ll only have one item to store; the bowls and accessories take up space too.

Stand mixer with accessories

Worth considering: if kneading, whisking and mixing are your main tasks, with slicing or blending as added functions.

Bear in mind: kitchen accessories need separate storage, and the dimensions of the base don’t tell you how much space you’ll need for the complete set-up.

Separate appliances or a specific addition

Worth considering: if you’re happy with your current appliances and only need one specific function.

Bear in mind: a specialist appliance won’t necessarily replace all the tasks a complete food processor can handle.

Cooking food processor or multi-cooker

Worth considering: if you also want to cook regularly and its food preparation functions suit the recipes you make.

Bear in mind: a multi-cooker designed mainly for cooking won’t automatically replace a chopper or grater, and may give you another appliance to store.

What matters What to check Who it matters most to
Replacing the functions you use Match each regular task to a specific tool and check whether it’s included, optional or not available. If I want to combine the tasks I repeat, I check that the accessories really suit the food I prepare. Around 28% of consumers prioritise replacing functions.
Reducing the overall footprint Measure the space for the base and allow room for every bowl, lid and accessory. When my cupboards are already full, I think about where the whole set will go rather than relying on the base’s compact appearance. Around 28% of consumers prioritise available storage space.
Keeping cleaning to a minimum Check which parts need to be taken apart and which are explicitly listed as dishwasher-safe. If I cook often, I check which parts are easy to clean without assuming the whole appliance is dishwasher-safe. Around 17% of consumers prioritise everyday cleaning.
Preparing the right quantities Distinguish between the bowl’s capacity, the quantities recommended for a particular preparation and the operating limits. To make my usual portions, I compare the recommended quantities and limits for each function. Around 16% of consumers put preparation quantities first.
Avoiding duplication Compare the included accessories and optional extras with the appliances you plan to keep. If I already have a blender or grater, I’d rather add the functions I’m genuinely missing than store duplicate tools. Around 11% of consumers prioritise avoiding duplicate equipment.

Pitfalls to avoid

  • Assuming storage for the base means storage for the whole set

The bowls and discs need a place too, even if the base looks compact.

Make a list of what’s included and any extras you’re considering, then set aside space for each item before comparing the overall footprint.

  • Confusing a multi-cooker with a food processor

An appliance designed for cooking won’t necessarily chop or grate. Some food processors can be fitted with a specific slicing accessory.

Check the food preparation and cooking functions separately, as well as which accessories are compatible with the exact model number.

  • Buying functions you already have in your kitchen

Not every package covers the same tasks. For example, the Bosch MUMS2EW30 and the Moulinex Quickchef DD655810 hand blender come with different equipment.

Make a list of the appliances you plan to keep, then compare only the functions you’re missing with what’s included and the available extras.

  • Assuming direct serving means you can use it without a break

For Express Serve on the FDP22-type MultiPro Go, the Kenwood guide says to pause after two minutes of continuous use for this function.

Follow the instructions for the function you’re using and the exact model number; don’t apply the operating time for one task to another.

Brands to consider for different needs

Magimix

The Compact System CS3200XL is an example of a food processor supplied with several bowls.

  • Magimix’s product information lists blades, a dough blade, an egg whisk, 2 and 4 mm discs and a storage box.
  • The listed 2.6 L, 2.2 L and 1.2 L bowls, along with the disc storage box, don’t by themselves mean you’ll save space in your cupboards.

Bosch

The MUMS2EW30 is an example of a stand mixer supplied with kitchen accessories.

  • Bosch’s French product information includes a vegetable slicer, a meat mincer, a dough hook and a blender jug.
  • The base measures 266 × 266 × 277 mm (height × width × depth), but this doesn’t include the space needed for stored or fitted accessories. Don’t assume the same package contents apply to other MUM models.

Kenwood

MultiPro Go can prepare food using a reversible disc; functions and accessories vary by model number.

  • Kenwood says the FDP22.140GY accessories are dishwasher-safe and that the cable can be stored in the appliance.
  • For the kneading function described in its FDP22-type guide, Kenwood specifies 250 g of flour and 150 g of water for 30 seconds. This limit doesn’t apply to every function or variant.

Moulinex

Quickchef, Companion and Cookeo meet different needs: specific food preparation, food preparation with cooking, or an additional cooking appliance.

  • The DD655810 includes a chopper and whisk, while the XF383110 vegetable slicer adds grating and slicing functions to Companion. Moulinex says the XF383110 discs can be stored in the steam basket.
  • The DD655810 doesn’t include a grater. Moulinex presents Cookeo+ as a high-pressure multi-cooker; the brand’s summaries of customer feedback on cleaning aren’t independent tests.

Frequently asked questions

Does a bowl with a capacity of several litres let you prepare the same amount of dough?

No. The bowl’s stated capacity doesn’t override the limit for each preparation. For the FDP22-type MultiPro Go, the Kenwood guide specifies kneading 250 g of flour and 150 g of water for 30 seconds. Check the instructions for your exact model number.

How can I avoid buying an incompatible accessory?

Make a note of your appliance’s full model number and check that the accessory is compatible with it. For the XF383110 vegetable slicer, Moulinex’s French website offers a compatibility check; the product range name alone isn’t enough.

What should I do if the MultiPro Go bowl is difficult to remove?

For the MultiPro Go, Kenwood says to set the on/off switch to the neutral position before removing the lid and bowl. For another appliance, follow its own instructions for dismantling it.

Are all accessories dishwasher-safe?

Don’t assume so: Kenwood lists its FDP22.140GY accessories as dishwasher-safe. Check the instructions for each part of your appliance, and don’t apply this guidance to the motor unit.

What protection applies if an appliance bought from a trader is faulty?

In France, the legal guarantee of conformity applies to new, second-hand and refurbished goods bought from a trader. The fault must have existed when the goods were supplied and must appear within the following two years. Consumers can claim under this guarantee from the seller. A manufacturer’s commercial promise that a product can be repaired is separate from this legal guarantee.
