Who are these options for?

Anyone who wants to prepare and cook in one appliance

If you often chop, mix and then cook a dish, consider the functions your recipes need and the bowl’s usable capacity. A cooking food processor won’t necessarily handle every preparation task with the same accessories.

Families and anyone who cooks in batches

Compare the usable capacity with the space the appliance takes up on your worktop. Moulinex lists a 4,5 L bowl for the Companion XL HF80DB10; Magimix gives a usable capacity of 3,8 L for the Cook Expert XL. These figures don’t necessarily refer to the same type of capacity.

Anyone interested in guided recipes

Check what remains available without an associated service. Vorwerk links the Thermomix TM7’s Cookidoo recipes to Cookidoo 3.0; Moulinex and Magimix each offer a recipe app for the models mentioned here. Access conditions matter just as much as the number of recipes advertised.

What should you compare?

Start with the recipes you make most often. They’ll help you decide between one appliance that handles several steps, two complementary appliances or the kitchen equipment you already own.

All-in-one cooking food processor

Worth considering: if you want to prepare and then cook a recipe in the same appliance.

Bear in mind: you can’t use the bowl for another preparation while it’s occupied or being cleaned.

Multicooker and food processor

Worth considering: if you want to carry on chopping or kneading while a dish cooks in the multicooker.

Bear in mind: you’ll need space to set up, store and clean two appliances.

Separate appliances

Worth considering: if your existing equipment already lets you cook several things at once.

Bear in mind: you’ll need to transfer ingredients between more containers, and there’s no built-in cooking food processor programme.

CriteriaWhat to checkWhat I need
Preparation and cooking List the steps involved in your recipes: chopping, mixing, kneading, steaming or slow cooking. Check the settings and accessories for the exact model; a multicooker on its own won’t necessarily replace a food processor. I want to know which steps I can do without changing appliances, and which I’d rather do at the same time.
Capacity Distinguish between total and usable capacity, then compare the usable capacity with the quantities you cook. Also consider whether the bowl will be in use when you’re making several things in a row. When cooking several portions at once, I need enough capacity to avoid making multiple batches.
Guided recipes Check which recipes are built in, which are available through an app and which features require a subscription. Vorwerk states that the Thermomix TM7 works with Cookidoo 3.0. I’m interested in step-by-step instructions, but I want to know the access conditions for the recipes I’ll use.
Cleaning Check the instructions for the bowl, blades, seals and accessories. Vorwerk says the TM7 base with screen must be cleaned by hand; the Magimix instructions state that the Cook Expert motor unit is not dishwasher-safe. After making a sauce or dough, I want to be able to clean the parts I’ve used without assuming the whole appliance is dishwasher-safe.
Space Compare the space needed to use and store a cooking food processor with the space required for several appliances. Allow room to take out the bowls and accessories. I need to be able to use my worktop while preparing food, whether I choose one appliance or several.

What mistakes should you avoid?

  • Choosing based only on the number of functions or recipes

A headline figure doesn’t tell you whether the appliance can handle the steps in your usual dishes or whether its bowl will hold the quantity you need. UFC-Que Choisir points out that functions and capacities vary between cooking food processors.

Make a note of a few recipes you prepare often, then compare their steps with the settings, accessories and capacity of the model you’re considering.

  • Confusing built-in recipes, apps and subscriptions

A recipe stored on the appliance and one accessed through a connected service may not be available on the same terms. Vorwerk links the Thermomix TM7 to Cookidoo 3.0, while Moulinex and Magimix describe their own apps.

Before choosing, check which recipes and features remain available without a subscription or internet connection.

  • Assuming everything is dishwasher-safe

Removable parts being dishwasher-safe doesn’t mean the motor base is too. Vorwerk says to clean the TM7 base with screen by hand; the Magimix instructions state that the Cook Expert motor unit is not dishwasher-safe.

Check the instructions for the exact model for guidance on the bowl, blades, seals and accessories.

  • Expecting a multicooker to handle every preparation task

The cooking settings on the Cookeo+ described by Moulinex don’t, on their own, replace an appliance for grating, slicing or kneading.

Separate preparation tasks from cooking tasks in your list of needs, then check which appliances and accessories can handle each one.

A few brands to know

Vorwerk / Thermomix

The Thermomix TM7 combines food preparation and cooking, with Cookidoo recipes available on the appliance.

  • Vorwerk lists 12 functions and 25 built-in modes for the TM7, including blending, kneading and steaming.
  • Vorwerk says the TM7 is only compatible with Cookidoo 3.0. The base with screen must be cleaned by hand, although most removable parts are dishwasher-safe.

Moulinex

Moulinex offers the Companion XL HF80DB10 cooking food processor and the Cookeo+ multicooker, among other products. They play different roles in preparing a meal.

  • Moulinex lists 14 operating modes and a 4,5 L bowl for the Companion XL HF80DB10, as well as a recipe app.
  • For the Cookeo+ CE85CA10, Moulinex lists a 6 L cooking pot and six cooking modes. You’ll still need a food preparation appliance if you also want to grate, slice or knead.

Magimix

The Cook Expert XL combines cooking in a stainless-steel bowl with separate bowls for certain food preparation tasks.

  • Magimix gives the Cook Expert XL a total capacity of 4,8 L and a usable capacity of 3,8 L, and lists more than 3 000 recipes in its app.
  • The Cook Expert instructions state that the motor unit is not dishwasher-safe. Check which programmes and accessories come with the version you’re considering.

Frequently asked questions

Can a cooking food processor replace a multicooker and a food processor?

Not necessarily: cooking modes, accessories and capacity vary from one cooking food processor to another. The Cookeo+ featured by Moulinex handles cooking tasks, but you’ll need suitable food preparation equipment for grating, slicing or kneading.

Do you need a subscription to use guided recipes?

It depends on the model and the recipes you want. Vorwerk says the Thermomix TM7 is compatible with Cookidoo 3.0, which requires a subscription for new customers; Moulinex and Magimix offer recipe apps for the models mentioned here. Check which content is available on the terms that suit you.

Which parts of a cooking food processor are dishwasher-safe?

It depends on the model. Vorwerk says most removable TM7 parts are dishwasher-safe, but the base with screen isn’t. According to the Magimix Cook Expert instructions, every part except the motor unit is dishwasher-safe. Always check the instructions for the version you choose.

Is the dishwasher the best option for every dishwasher-safe part?

Not necessarily. Where possible, Vorwerk recommends washing the TM7’s removable parts by hand to protect certain materials and seals, although it says the relevant parts can also go in the dishwasher.

What precautions should you take before using a cooking food processor?

Follow the instructions for the model you choose. The Magimix Cook Expert manual says, among other things, not to start cooking with an empty bowl and to handle the blades and discs with care. It also explains how to supervise children safely.
