Who are these appliances suitable for?

People preparing several portions and ingredients at once

You mainly want to speed up chopping, grating, slicing and blending before portioning or cooking several servings. The bowl size, included discs and accessory storage then become key considerations.

Households looking to delegate everyday cooking

You already prepare the ingredients but want to spend less time monitoring cooking, simmering, steaming or keeping food warm. A multicooker or cooking food processor will suit you better than a food processor alone.

Well-equipped kitchens with limited space

You already own a slow cooker, multicooker, blender or mincer and want to avoid duplicated functions. Footprint, cleaning and genuinely useful accessories matter more than the number of advertised programmes.

Buying priorities

Start by listing the tasks you repeat for a typical meal, then compare the capacity and cleaning requirements of appliances that can genuinely handle them.

Priority What to check Your needs
Ingredient preparation Check the grating or slicing discs, the included blade or mini chopper, and the bowl capacity for your usual quantities. I want to reduce repetitive tasks when chopping, grating, slicing, blending or kneading several ingredients.
Programmed cooking Check the cooking modes, time and temperature controls, and the keep-warm or delayed-start functions if they are important to your routine. I want to start cooking, simmering, steaming or keeping food warm after preparing the ingredients.
Capacity and footprint Compare the usable capacity with the total volume, filling limits and appliance dimensions with the bowl fitted. My portions need to fit in the bowl or cooking pot without requiring several batches, while still leaving enough space on the worktop.
Cleaning and wear parts Check dishwasher compatibility for each component and look for information about the bowl, cooking pot, lids, seals, blades and replaceable accessories. I prefer an appliance whose frequently used parts are easy to clean and can be replaced, depending on the model.

Mistakes to avoid

  • Confusing ingredient preparation with programmed cooking

A multicooker can sear, simmer and keep food warm, but it generally does not replace chopping, grating or blending. If cutting ingredients is still the longest step, repetitive preparation will not disappear.

List the steps you want to delegate for a typical meal: chopping, mincing, blending, cooking and keeping food warm. Choose a multicooker alone when ingredient preparation is already covered.

  • Taking the advertised volume as the genuinely usable capacity

The quantity you can actually cook may be lower than the nominal capacity, particularly in a cooking pot that requires a safety margin. A bowl that is too small means preparing several batches.

Compare the usable capacity, the filling limits in the manual and the quantity of your largest prepared dish, rather than looking only at the advertised litres.

  • Paying for accessories or programmes you will not use

Numerous accessories may require storage and cleaning, while some cooking food processor packages combine guided recipes with connected services. A large number of functions does not guarantee that they will suit your routine.

Check the list of included accessories, how they are stored, which parts are sold separately and the access conditions for any connected app or recipes.

Additional accessories, recipe services or connected options may incur extra costs depending on the brand and model.

  • Assuming an entire brand offers the same parts and warranties

Commitments relating to spare parts, warranties and compatible components apply to a specific reference. Information provided for one model does not automatically apply to other appliances from the same brand.

Look up the full reference and, before buying, check the availability of the cooking pot, blades, seals, lids and wear parts, along with the warranty and after-sales service terms.

Brand overview

Moulinex

The brand offers food processors for preparation, such as Double Force, as well as Cookeo multicookers. It is a useful reference point when you are deciding whether to delegate chopping or mainly cooking.

  • For the Cookeo+ CE85B510, Moulinex states that it has a 6 L cooking pot, a dishwasher-safe steaming basket, six cooking modes and a 15-year repairability commitment at a fair price.
  • A multicooker automates cooking, but Que Choisir states that it generally does not mix ingredients. Check your need for mincing or blending separately.

Magimix

The Cook Expert range combines cooking food processor and preparation functions. The Cook Expert XL is designed for large quantities and batch cooking.

  • According to Magimix, the Cook Expert XL offers 4.8 L total capacity, 3.8 L usable capacity, a stainless-steel bowl, spare-parts availability for 30 years and a 30-year motor warranty.
  • The appliance may take up considerable space once fitted with its bowl. Check the dimensions and specifications of the exact variant before buying.

Vorwerk

Thermomix is an option for a connected cooking food processor aimed at people who want guided cooking and numerous modes in one appliance.

  • For the TM7, Vorwerk advertises 24 modes, guided Cookidoo recipes, cooking temperatures of up to 160 °C and an enlarged Varoma.
  • Check the access conditions for Cookidoo and connected content before relying on the associated recipes or functions.

Bosch

The MultiTalent 8 range illustrates a food processor focused on preparation: grating, slicing, grinding, chopping and mixing using several accessories.

  • For the MC812M844, Bosch advertises more than 50 functions, a 3.9 L bowl and storage for several accessories inside the bowl.
  • The product information does not present this reference as a cooking appliance. If you want to cook or simmer in the appliance, look instead at a cooking food processor or multicooker.

Frequently asked questions

Should you choose total capacity or usable capacity for batch cooking?

Use the usable capacity to estimate the portions you can actually prepare, and leave room for ingredients that expand, boil or need stirring. Que Choisir gives the example of a 6 L Cookeo cooking pot that can hold a maximum of only 4 L. The Cook Expert XL, meanwhile, advertises 4.8 L total capacity and 3.8 L usable capacity.

Can a multicooker replace a food processor for chopping, grating or blending?

Generally speaking, no: according to Que Choisir, a multicooker mainly automates cooking and does not usually mix food. Plan to prepare ingredients by hand or use an additional appliance for chopping, slicing, grating or blending, unless the exact reference explicitly includes a suitable accessory.

What should you check to minimise cleaning and extend the appliance’s service life?

For the exact reference, check which parts are dishwasher-safe, the availability of the bowl, lid, seals, blades and cooking pot, and the advertised warranty period. Que Choisir’s tests assess bowls, lids and accessories after 50 dishwasher cycles, making this a separate consideration from cooking performance.

Is the repairability index compulsory for food processors in France?

The list published by the ministries responsible for ecological transition on 8 July 2025 does not include food processors or multicookers among the categories concerned. Check the availability of spare parts, warranty terms and after-sales service directly for the model you choose.

How can you check that an appliance is not subject to a safety recall?

Check RappelConso using the brand, reference and, where available, batch number before buying, and again if a problem arises after purchase. According to Service-Public.fr, the service lets you search for recalls by category, brand, date or type of risk. If a recall is issued, stop using the product and follow the published instructions.
