How do the formats compare?
Start by checking the ingredients and deciding what ‘240 servings’ means for the way you’ll use the coffee. Then check what equipment you need and how you’ll share the supply.

Read the ingredients and nutritional information for the specific product, distinguishing coffee on its own from preparations containing other ingredients. |

| Number of servings |
Compare like with like: capsules, sticks or cups based on a stated serving size. Also check how many boxes are in the multipack. |

| Brewing method |
For capsules, check the exact machine system; for instant coffee, read the preparation instructions. |
I need to be able to make coffee with the equipment I already have, without buying a multipack of capsules I can’t use. Around 20% of consumers would make compatibility their main consideration. |

Frequently asked questions
Is decaffeinated coffee automatically suitable when shopping with diabetes in mind?
No. The term ‘decaffeinated’ doesn’t tell you everything about a product’s ingredients or the drink you make with it. The French health insurance service (Assurance Maladie) advises that a diet for someone with diabetes should be tailored to their needs. Read the ingredients and nutritional information for the product you’ve chosen, and consider anything you might add.
How can I tell whether instant coffee is coffee on its own or a preparation with other ingredients?
Read the ingredients list for the exact product. Auchan’s listing for 200 g of Nescafé decaffeinated coffee says ‘100% coffee’, while the ingredients listed for Auchan’s decaffeinated sticks are freeze-dried decaffeinated instant coffee. These descriptions don’t apply to every drink from these brands.
How can I plan for 240 servings without a capsule machine?
First, choose between sticks that you can count individually and a jar whose cup yield depends on the stated serving size. Auchan’s decaffeinated sticks are sold in packs of 25, while the 200 g Nescafé jar is said to make 100 cups. Before putting your supply together, check the quantity and preparation method for the product you’re considering.
Jar or sticks: which should you choose for a break room?
Sticks are a good choice if everyone needs an individual serving without measuring with a spoon; a jar works if sharing and measuring isn’t a problem. If you choose a jar, plan to reseal it after use and compare the stated quantities using the same unit.
What should I look for on the label of pre-packed coffee in France?
Check the product name, ingredients list, nutritional information and net quantity to identify the product and its pack size. The French Directorate-General for Competition Policy, Consumer Affairs and Fraud Control (DGCCRF) includes these among the labelling details required for pre-packed foods. Also check the storage instructions and the date shown on the relevant pack.
