Who are these options for?

Households looking for variety at dinnertime

If your recipes involve chopping, mixing and cooking, a cooking food processor can bring some of these steps together. Be sure to compare the bowl size with your usual portions, then consider how much space the appliance needs and how easy it is to clean.

Families who mainly cook larger meals

A multicooker can be a good choice for slow-cooked, steamed or pressure-cooked dishes if you already have the tools to prepare the ingredients. The capacity of its cooking pot doesn’t mean it can chop, grate or knead.

People who follow guided recipes

If on-screen recipes influence your choice of meals, check which ones remain available without a subscription and how the service renews.

What should you look at first?

All-in-one cooking food processor

Choose this if : you want to combine food preparation and cooking in one appliance for the recipes you make regularly.

Bear in mind : the bowl, accessories and any access to guided recipes need to suit the way you’ll use it.

Multicooker

Choose this if : cooking meals is your priority and you already prepare ingredients using other tools.

Bear in mind : tasks such as grating and kneading will still need to be done separately.

Separate preparation and cooking

Stick with this if : you prefer to choose your own cookware and cook in the oven, frying pan or saucepan, depending on the recipe.

Bear in mind : you’ll need to transfer prepared ingredients between the utensils you use.

FactorWhat to checkFor my needs
Portions Where stated, compare the usable capacity with the quantities in your recipes. Check any limits for soup, dough or steaming. I prepare several portions at once : a stated cooking pot capacity alone won’t tell me how many portions of my recipe it can cook.
Preparation List the tasks you need to do — chopping, grating, kneading or whisking — then check the functions and accessories included with the specific model. For my evening meals, I want to know which steps the appliance handles and which I’ll still need to do with my own utensils.
Space Measure the space where you plan to keep it, including room for the bowl and accessories, as well as storage space. An appliance you use often should be within easy reach without getting in the way when you’re preparing meals.
Cleaning Check the instructions for the cooking pot, lid, blades and accessories individually. Find out how to take the parts apart and clean them after use. If I cook every day, washing the parts matters just as much as the steps I save while following a recipe.
Recipes and accessories Check which recipes are available without a subscription, the service terms, and which accessories are included or sold separately. I’m interested in guided recipes ; I want to know what I’ll be able to use long term and which accessories I’ll need for my dishes.

What should you avoid?

  • Assuming bowl capacity tells you how many portions it makes

Soup, dough and steamed vegetables use a cooking pot in different ways : the stated capacity doesn’t guarantee you can cook a whole meal in one batch.

Compare the quantities in two or three of your usual recipes with the usable capacity and any limits listed in the instructions.

  • Expecting a multicooker to prepare the ingredients

The cooking modes on the Cookeo Touch Wifi, as presented by Moulinex, don’t replace the chopping, grating or kneading functions available on some cooking food processors.

Make a list of the tasks your meals require, then check which ones the appliance can handle and which will need your existing tools.

If you still need to do these tasks and don’t already have the right tools, you’ll need to budget for them.

  • Assuming all recipes and accessories are included

Access to guided recipes may require a subscription, and some cooking modes need a separate accessory. Vorwerk specifies, for example, that a Cookidoo subscription renews automatically unless cancelled.

Before choosing, check which recipes are available without a subscription, the renewal terms and the list of accessories supplied for the dishes you make.

Which brands are worth considering?

These ranges illustrate different set-ups ; always compare the specifications of the exact model rather than making assumptions about an entire brand.

Vorwerk / Thermomix

The Thermomix TM7 combines food preparation, cooking and guided recipes in the range presented by Vorwerk.

  • Vorwerk lists a 2.2 L bowl for the TM7 and guided recipes through Cookidoo.
  • Make sure the capacity suits your portions. Access to Cookidoo is subject to the subscription terms after the free period advertised by Vorwerk.

Moulinex

The i-Companion XL handles food preparation and cooking, while the Cookeo Touch Wifi focuses on cooking modes.

  • Moulinex lists a 3 L usable capacity and ten programmes for the i-Companion XL. The Cookeo Touch Wifi specifications include pressure cooking, steaming and slow cooking.
  • Don’t choose the Cookeo Touch Wifi as a substitute for chopping or kneading tools without checking what your recipes require.

Magimix

The Cook Expert models presented by Magimix combine food preparation and cooking, with different capacities depending on the version.

  • Magimix lists a 3.5 L capacity for the standard Cook Expert and a 3.8 L usable capacity for the Cook Expert XL Connect.
  • The Cook Expert XL Connect is listed at 11.9 kg : check where you’ll be able to set it up and store it.

Silvercrest / Monsieur Cuisine

Que Choisir includes the Monsieur Cuisine range among cooking food processors, but this doesn’t define the specifications of every version.

  • For a specific model, check its own product page and instructions for functions, capacity and care requirements.

Frequently asked questions

What capacity should I compare when cooking several portions?

Where stated, compare the usable capacity with the quantities in the recipes you make most often. Vorwerk lists a 2.2 L bowl for the Thermomix TM7, Moulinex lists 3 L usable capacity for the i-Companion XL, and Magimix lists 3.8 L usable capacity for the Cook Expert XL Connect ; these figures alone don’t tell you how many portions of each recipe you can make.

Can a multicooker replace a cooking food processor?

Not for recipes that also need preparation functions your chosen multicooker doesn’t have. Moulinex describes the Cookeo Touch Wifi as offering pressure cooking, steaming and slow cooking, among other functions : if you also need to chop, grate or knead, check that your other utensils can handle these tasks.

Can you still access Thermomix guided recipes without a subscription?

Check which recipes are available without Cookidoo before making guided cooking your main deciding factor. According to the Vorwerk France FAQ, a Cookidoo subscription renews automatically at the end of its 12-month period unless you cancel the renewal.

How can I assess how easy a food processor or multicooker is to clean?

Check the instructions for the cooking pot, lid, blades and accessories of the model you’re considering individually : a part being dishwasher-safe doesn’t mean the whole appliance is. Moulinex says the Cookeo Touch cooking pot is dishwasher-safe.
