Decorating your home, reorganising your bathroom, or getting your balcony ready for summer can often be a headache: how do you hang pictures, string lights, or towels without getting out the drill and turning your walls into Swiss cheese? For renters, or simply for those who love to change their decor with the seasons, this is a critical question.
The Command adhesive hook has established itself as THE ultimate adhesive wall-mounting solution. But with such a vast range, it can be hard to know where to start, as each model is designed for a very specific need. This guide is here to help you make sense of it all and find the perfect drill-free hook for your project, whether it's for indoors, outdoors, or a damp room.
Before you get started, there are three criteria to consider to ensure a reliable and long-lasting hold.
The installation location is the first criterion to consider. An indoor hook won't face the same challenges as an outdoor hook exposed to UV rays and rain, or a bathroom hook subjected to constant humidity.
Each Command hook is designed to hold a maximum weight, which is clearly stated on the packaging. It is crucial to respect this limit to avoid any unpleasant surprises. Weigh the object you want to hang (picture frame, string lights, utensil) and choose an adhesive wall mount with a capacity slightly higher than that weight. For heavier objects, there are solutions with multiple strips or more robust models.
The hook shouldn't steal the spotlight from your decor. The Command range offers various finishes to match your style:

1. How do I remove a Command adhesive hook without damaging the wall? Removal is a breeze, as long as you follow the procedure. Most importantly, never pull the hook towards you. Hold the hook firmly (without pressing it against the wall) and stretch the adhesive strip very slowly, straight down, parallel to the wall. The strip will stretch up to 30 cm before releasing cleanly.
2. Can a Command hook be reused? Absolutely. The hook itself (plastic or metal) is reusable. Simply purchase the appropriate Command Refill Strips (outdoor, bathroom, clear, etc.). Clean the back of the hook, apply a new strip, and it's ready to be mounted elsewhere.
3. On which surfaces do Command hooks not work? For a perfect bond, use smooth, clean surfaces like painted walls (wait at least 7 days after painting), tile, glass, metal, or varnished wood. Avoid textured surfaces, wallpaper (especially vinyl), brick, fabric, or any non-rigid surface. The adhesive will not be able to get a strong enough grip.
