Shopping online makes it easy to compare computer equipment, stationery, video games and children’s products. But with such a vast selection, choosing the right item can quickly become complicated. A well-illustrated product page does not always tell you whether an item will genuinely suit your everyday needs.
Before confirming your basket, watch out for three common pitfalls:
The format should suit the intended environment and use. An A6 notebook, measuring approximately 10.5 × 14.8 cm, slips easily into a bag or pocket, but naturally provides less space than a notebook intended for schoolwork. For school, a Seyès school exercise book measuring 17 × 22 cm is generally better suited to structured writing and homework.
For a laptop, look carefully at its weight, thickness, screen size and keyboard. A 13-inch model prioritises portability, while a 15.6-inch laptop offers a more comfortable display area. The palm rest and shape of the keys also matter if you plan to work for several hours at a time.
Compatibility is not limited to the operating system. Remember to check:
A wireless AZERTY keyboard and mouse set can help keep your workstation tidy, but check the type of receiver, advertised range and power supply. If you prefer a wired solution, a Logitech USB mouse eliminates the need for charging and plugs directly into a compatible computer.
For stationery, pay attention to the paper weight, number of sheets and fastening system. The Jubiluu notebook featured below uses 100 g/m² ivory offset paper and includes 80 sheets, an elastic closure, a pen loop and a bookmark. For a self-adhesive photo album, check the number of pages, the size of photos it accepts and whether it has a protective film.
With young children, the recommended age and direct adult supervision are essential. A baby bath book should be rinsed, dried and checked regularly. Small parts and plastic film must be kept out of reach of children who may put them in their mouths.
Finally, before buying a collector’s edition PS5 game, check the language, age rating, physical contents, digital bonuses and the terms of use for any codes. A figurine, SteelBook case or art book is a separate part of the bundle, but is not the game itself.

A main purchase may call for a few additions. To equip a desk, compare a wireless AZERTY keyboard and mouse set with the ET Silent Wireless Keyboard and Mouse Combo. This set offers 105 keys, an advertised range of up to 10 metres and a single receiver. For taking notes or revising, WRITECH highlighters feature chisel tips and come in eight colours.
Families may opt for the Sophie la Girafe bath book, made from waterproof EVA foam. It has eight pages and is suitable for babies aged 4 months and over, under direct adult supervision. Video game enthusiasts can also choose from several collector’s editions of PS5 games, such as Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, Persona 4: Revival or Stranger Than Heaven. In every case, carefully compare the contents of the bundle, the recommended age and the availability of digital bonuses.
For school, the OXFORD Easybook Oceanis three-pack uses Seyès ruling, with 96 pages per notebook and a format of 17 × 22 cm. The Jubiluu A6 notebook is ideal for lists, sketches and notes taken on the go; its advertised 160 pages correspond to 80 sheets.
Start by noting the dimensions, compatibility, contents of the parcel, language, recommended age and warranty terms. Then compare this information with your actual use, rather than relying solely on photos or marketing claims.
The price mainly depends on the type of connection, brand, ergonomics and features offered. A wired USB mouse can reduce ongoing costs associated with batteries or charging. For a wireless set, check the advertised battery life and the cost of any replacement batteries.
Keep the packaging and instructions, use a compatible charger, protect devices from moisture and clean surfaces with a suitable cloth. For stationery and albums, choose a dry place away from direct sunlight. With electrical devices, make sure the air vents are not blocked and unplug them if they become unusually hot or if a cable is damaged.
