What should you check before buying?
First, make sure the oven will fit in the existing space and can be connected in accordance with its instructions. Then compare useful functions, cleaning requirements, and information about energy use and after-sales service.
| What matters |
What to check before buying |
Who should pay particular attention? |
| Compatibility with your installation |
Measure the housing and check the ventilation clearances, connection and power requirements listed for the model. A fascia measuring around 60 cm across doesn’t tell you the built-in dimensions. |
If you want to keep your existing housing and avoid altering the installation, compare the housing dimensions and connection requirements before choosing a model. Around 36% of consumers prioritise this compatibility. |
| Functions and cooking capacity |
Compare the usable capacity, the cooking modes you need and the size of your dishes. For a combination model, check its additional function and the dimensions of that specific model. |
If you cook dishes in different sizes, look at the capacity and the modes you’ll actually use rather than just the number of programmes. Around 29% of consumers prioritise cooking functions and capacity. |
| Cleaning |
Find out exactly which cleaning method is used and check what you need to do before and after the cycle. Pyrolytic and hydrolytic cleaning are different methods. |
If you want to minimise cleaning by hand, check what you’ll still need to do after a cycle and once the oven has cooled. Around 21% of consumers make cleaning their main consideration. |
| Energy use and long-term support |
For ovens covered by EU energy labelling, compare the kWh per cycle for the same mode. Also check parts information and the service terms for the model. |
To keep track of running costs over time, compare energy use by mode and check parts and service information. Nearly 14% of consumers prioritise energy use and long-term support. |

Frequently asked questions
Can a combination oven fit straight into the space left by my old oven?
Not without checking its dimensions and capacity. The Bosch CMA583MS0 combination oven is 454 mm high and has a 44 L cavity, while the Bosch HBA534BR0 oven requires a housing 585 to 595 mm high and has a 71 L cavity. What should I check before connecting a new electric oven?
Check the connection type and power requirements in the instructions, then ask someone to confirm that your existing circuit is compatible if you’re unsure. For a dedicated oven circuit, Legrand’s interpretation of the NF C 15-100 standard specifies conductors of at least 2,5 mm² and a circuit breaker rated at no more than 20 A. This guidance doesn’t amount to an assessment of your installation.
Does pyrolytic cleaning mean I never have to clean the oven?
No. For the relevant Electrolux ovens, the manufacturer advises removing accessories and removable supports before the cycle, then waiting for the oven to cool before wiping away residue. Follow the instructions for your model.
Can I use the energy label to compare all combination ovens directly?
No. Compare the information for the specific product and cooking mode. The European Commission provides standardised energy consumption figures per cycle and mode for ovens covered by energy labelling, and distinguishes, among other things, appliances offering a microwave heating function within the scope of the regulations described.
What are my rights if an oven bought from a professional seller is faulty or doesn’t match its description?
In France, the statutory guarantee of conformity applies to new, second-hand and refurbished goods sold by a professional to a private individual. You have two years to make a claim; an additional commercial guarantee doesn’t replace it. Source: French Ministry of the Economy and Finance.
