What to check before buying
Start with the actual space available, then compare the separate capacities and the installation conditions specific to the model you are considering.

What to check |
Your needs |
| Overall size and positioning |
Compare the appliance’s overall width, height and depth with the available space. Also check the door-opening direction, delivery access and the housing-unit dimensions for a built-in model. |
I want to be able to open the door and access the storage areas without blocking a walkway or an adjacent unit. |
| Fridge and freezer capacity |
Check the fridge and freezer litres separately. Also consider the shelves, door balconies and salad drawer based on the containers you normally use. |
My shopping needs to fit in the fridge, with enough freezer space for the amount of frozen food I keep. |
| Installation and temperature |
Read the instructions for the exact model to check clearance requirements and the type of installation. Once installed, check the setting at the coldest point. |
I need to be able to install the appliance in accordance with its instructions. Anses recommends between 0 °C and +4 °C at the coldest point for domestic fridges. |
| Energy label and noise |
Read the energy rating together with the annual consumption, capacity and stated noise level. Make sure the energy label is visible in the listing. |
I want to compare models intended for the same use using clear information, without treating the energy rating alone as a complete indicator. |

Frequently asked questions
Is an energy label compulsory for a new fridge sold in France?
Yes. The French Ministry for Ecological Transition states that refrigeration appliances must carry a compulsory energy label in France. Check the label or details for the exact model, including the rating, annual consumption, capacities and noise level.
What temperature should a fridge be?
Anses recommends between 0 °C and +4 °C at the coldest point. After installation, a thermometer can help you check this point and adjust the setting according to the appliance’s instructions.
Can an under-worktop fridge replace a freestanding tabletop model?
Not automatically. A built-in under-worktop model requires a housing unit with the specified dimensions and compatible door fitting. Liebherr, for example, specifies a housing unit measuring 82 to 88 cm high, 60 cm wide and 56 cm deep for the URd 3601; these measurements may not apply to another model.
Is an integrated freezer compartment enough for all frozen food?
It depends on how much you keep, how long you store it and the capacity explicitly stated for that compartment. Bosch specifies 106 L of fridge capacity for the KTL15NWEB, while the KGN36ELEA has a separate 89 L freezer: compare the capacity of each compartment before choosing.
How can you check the ventilation requirements for a compact model before buying?
Read the installation instructions for the exact model, not just its advertised dimensions. Bosch recommends following the warnings and instructions in the manual; clearances may differ between freestanding, under-worktop and built-in installation.
