Who is this option for?

One portion in the evening

If you mostly cook one type of food or a small amount, compare the portion you actually cook at a time with the stated capacity of the exact model. UFC-Que Choisir also highlights the risk of buying an appliance that overlaps with what your oven already does.

Two dishes to cook at once

If you often prepare a main and a side dish that need different settings, check the capacity of each drawer separately. Philips states that its NA352/00 model has two compartments: one of 6 L and one of 3 L.

A kitchen that’s already well equipped

If you already have an oven and are short on space, or noise is a concern, first check whether an additional appliance would give you a genuinely different way to cook. UFC-Que Choisir includes noise among the factors to consider before buying.

What to compare

Start with the dishes you find difficult to prepare in your current oven. If a new appliance meets a different need, choose its capacity to suit your portions. Only opt for two drawers if you’ll benefit from cooking two dishes separately.

What matters What to check before buying Who this is for
Amount per batch Compare the stated amount for the food you’ll be cooking with the shape of the basket and your usual portions. If I want to cook a small portion without starting a second batch, useful capacity matters most; around 29% of consumers put this at the top of their list.
A use that’s different from the oven Check whether your usual dishes already work well in your oven and whether a new appliance would meet a different need. If my oven already suits the meals I make, I want to find an additional use before adding another appliance; around 23% of consumers prioritise avoiding duplication.
Space and noise Measure the available space and look for noise measurements taken under comparable conditions. UFC-Que Choisir measures noise from 50 cm away while the appliance is running. In a small kitchen, I want to fit the appliance in without cluttering the worktop or putting up with disruptive noise; around 18% of consumers prioritise these practical considerations.
Two dishes Check the capacity and shape of each drawer, as well as the settings available for each compartment on the exact model. If I prepare a main and a side dish at the same time, I want to be able to cook them separately; around 18% of consumers prioritise coordinating two dishes.
Cleaning Check which parts are removable and which are listed as dishwasher-safe. When I cook often, I want to know which parts I’ll need to wash by hand; around 12% of consumers put ease of cleaning at the top of their list.

Mistakes to avoid

  • Choosing an appliance that simply duplicates what your oven does

UFC-Que Choisir points out that an air fryer performs several functions that an oven can also handle. If there’s no particular dish that you struggle to make with your current equipment, the extra appliance may have limited use.

Think about the small dishes you’d like to make more easily and compare them with what your oven can already do.

  • Assuming the total capacity is one large cooking area

    The Philips NA352/00 has a stated capacity of 9 L, split between a 6 L drawer and a 3 L drawer. It doesn’t have one single 9 L compartment.

Compare each drawer with the food and dishes you plan to cook in it, rather than relying on the total capacity alone.

  • Assuming all models cook in the same way and are quiet

UFC-Que Choisir’s tests report differences in cooking performance and noise between the appliances tested.

Look for tests covering the foods you cook often, and compare noise measurements taken under similar conditions.

  • Applying one energy-use result to every meal

In UFC-Que Choisir’s tests, results compared with the mini oven tested differed for a small quiche and chicken drumsticks.

Don’t assume a test of a different recipe or appliance will give the same result for your meals.

Brands to know

Philips

The single-drawer NA120/00 and dual-drawer NA352/00 models let you compare a single cooking area with two separate compartments.

  • Philips states that the NA120/00 has a 4.2 L cooking pan that can hold up to 500 g of vegetables or chips. For the NA352/00, the brand lists two drawers of 6 L and 3 L.
  • These stated capacities don’t guarantee even cooking or mean that a second drawer will be useful for a small portion.

Moulinex

The range includes a drawer-style air fryer and a mini oven, two formats worth comparing with the dishes you make at home.

  • Moulinex states that the Easy Fry Essential EZ130810 has a 3.5 L dishwasher-safe basket, while the Optimo OX444810 has a 19 L cavity and several cooking modes.
  • Capacity and the number of cooking modes alone don’t tell you how well an appliance cooks. UFC-Que Choisir reports that energy-use results vary depending on the recipe and appliances compared.

Ninja

Single-drawer and dual-drawer models, as well as the Crispi, offer useful points of comparison. However, the features of one model don’t necessarily apply to the whole range.

  • Capital’s selection, published on 2 September 2026, includes the Ninja Crispi.
  • The Crispi name in this selection doesn’t identify a complete model reference, so it’s not possible to confidently attribute the features of a particular version.

Tefal

The French range includes single-drawer and dual-drawer models, making it useful for comparing one cooking area with two separate zones.

  • Tefal states that its Easy Fry XL Surface&Pizza model can cook a 27 cm pizza.
  • This feature applies to this model only. It doesn’t tell you about other models in the range or their cooking performance, noise or size.

Air fryers available on Joybuy

This selection includes single-drawer air fryers and models with separate compartments. Compare the capacity of each container with your usual portions. Before buying in France, check the CE marking and French-language safety information for the exact model. EUR-Lex (consolidated text as at 30 May 2026) sets out the scope of Directive 2014/35/EU, which applies, among other things, to electrical equipment rated at 50 to 1 000 V AC, subject to its exclusions. The DGCCRF notes that information needed for safe use must be provided in French. CE marking does not indicate cooking performance.

Frequently asked questions

Does the stated capacity in litres tell me how much food I can cook?

Not on its own. Check the shape of the basket and the stated amount for the food you plan to cook, too. Philips says that the 4.2 L NA120/00 can hold up to 500 g of vegetables or chips. This doesn’t automatically apply to other models.

How can I compare noise levels before putting an air fryer in an open-plan kitchen?

Compare measurements taken under similar conditions rather than relying on a short demonstration. UFC-Que Choisir measures noise from 50 cm away while the appliance is running and reports differences between the models tested.

What should I check for everyday cleaning?

Check the instructions for the exact model to see which parts are removable and which are dishwasher-safe. Philips lists the cooking pan and StarPlate for the NA120/00 as dishwasher-safe; Moulinex says the basket of the Easy Fry Essential EZ130810 is too.

Are two compartments useful for a small portion?

They’re mainly worth considering if you often cook two foods that need different settings. For a single portion, compare the capacity and shape of the compartment you’ll use instead: the capacities of two drawers don’t combine to make one cooking area.

Does CE marking mean an air fryer will cook better?

No. CE marking doesn’t indicate cooking performance. For an electrical appliance sold in France that falls within the scope of Directive 2014/35/EU — including equipment rated at 50 to 1 000 V AC, subject to exclusions — check the CE marking and French-language safety information for the exact model. EUR-Lex sets out the scope of the Directive in its consolidated text as at 30 May 2026; the DGCCRF explains the requirements for information to be provided in French.
